Revel C263 In-Ceiling Speaker

Revel C263 In-Ceiling Speaker

The Revel C263 is a 6.5-inch in-ceiling speaker from Revel’s 2 Series of architectural loudspeakers, built for in-ceiling music systems and for overhead surround and height channels in home cinema. It pairs a 6.5-inch aluminium-cone woofer in a cast-polymer frame with a 1-inch aluminium-dome tweeter that swivels and sits in an integrated waveguide, behind a paintable, zero-bezel magnetic grille that all but disappears into the ceiling. Revel voices its architectural speakers to match its freestanding models, so a system can mix in-ceiling and conventional speakers without an obvious change in character from channel to channel.

Key features

• 6.5-inch aluminium cone woofer with cast-polymer frame
• 1-inch aluminium dome swivelling tweeter with integrated waveguide
• Recommended amplifier power range of 10 to 100 watts
• 86 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V, 1 metre
• Paintable zero-bezel magnetic grille, round grille included
• High-order crossover network for accurate timbre reproduction

Driver design

The woofer uses an aluminium cone, a long-throw design and a rubber surround, a combination chosen for output and low distortion from a compact ceiling format. Aluminium is stiff and light, so the cone holds its shape as it moves rather than flexing and colouring the midrange. Above it, the 1-inch aluminium-dome tweeter can be swivelled to aim the high frequencies towards the listening area, which matters in a ceiling installation where the listener is rarely directly beneath the speaker. Its integrated waveguide controls how the treble spreads, giving consistent on-axis and off-axis performance across the seats instead of a single narrow sweet spot. A high-order crossover network blends the two drivers, and spring-post connectors accept the speaker cable.

Power, sensitivity and system matching

Revel specifies a recommended amplifier power range of 10 to 100 watts and a sensitivity of 86 dB at 2.83 V measured at one metre. That makes the C263 a straightforward partner for the amplifier channels in a typical AV receiver or multi-room amplifier: it does not demand unusual power, and it plays cleanly at the levels expected of background music and film effects. Because the 2 Series is voice-matched across the range, C263 units can serve as the main speakers in a kitchen or bedroom system, as surrounds in a Revel-based cinema, or as height channels above freestanding Revel front speakers, with a consistent tonal balance throughout.

Installation and finish

The C263 needs an 8-inch round cutout and a mounting depth of 4.8 inches, and Revel’s C-2 installation mechanism suits ceiling material from 0.5 to 2.0 inches thick. The finished round grille measures 9.1 inches across; the C263 is supplied with the round grille only, which is magnetic, has effectively no visible bezel, and can be painted to match the ceiling colour so the installation reads as a clean disc rather than a fitting. Pre-construction brackets and back-box accessories are available in the range for new-build and renovation work. Each speaker weighs 3.1 lbs, so standard ceiling construction handles it without special reinforcement in typical installations.

For discreet ceiling audio with proper hi-fi driver engineering behind the grille, the Revel C263 is a measured, system-friendly choice for music rooms and home cinema alike.
