The Q Acoustics 3090Ci is the dedicated centre channel of the 3000i series, voiced to carry the dialogue and on-screen action of a home cinema with the same tonal character as the 3010i, 3020i and 3050i speakers it is designed to partner. Twin 100 mm mid/bass drivers flank a 22 mm dome tweeter in a compact, wide enclosure that is deliberately the same width as most AV receivers, so it sits naturally on or in a media cabinet under the screen.

Because roughly two-thirds of a film soundtrack — and almost all of its dialogue — comes through the centre channel, Q Acoustics engineered the 3090Ci for intelligibility first: the tweeter is decoupled from the front baffle to isolate it from cabinet vibration, and the cabinet uses P2P (Point to Point) bracing, which stiffens the enclosure at measured points to keep the midrange clean and uncoloured.

The Centre Channel’s Job

In a surround system the centre speaker anchors sound to the picture: voices stay fixed to the actor on screen even for listeners seated off to the sides, which a phantom centre image from two stereo speakers cannot maintain. Matching the centre to the front left and right speakers matters just as much — a voice should not change character as it pans across the screen. The 3090Ci shares its drivers, crossover philosophy and voicing with the rest of the 3000i range precisely so pans stay seamless.

Placement and Setup

Position the 3090Ci as close to ear level and to the screen as the furniture allows, angled slightly toward the listeners if it sits low. If the cabinet or a wall is very close behind it, the supplied foam bungs tame the rear port’s output. In your AV receiver, set the centre channel to small with an 80 Hz crossover to a subwoofer for the cleanest dialogue at high playback levels.
