JOBY Wavo POD USB Microphone

JOBY Wavo POD USB Microphone

The JOBY Wavo POD is a USB condenser microphone for streamers, podcasters and creators who record at a desk and want the controls on the microphone, not buried in software. It connects to a computer by USB-C, captures in cardioid pattern at 24-bit / 48 kHz, and puts gain, headphone volume and mute on the microphone body — including a click-to-mute with a clear status light, the control every live streamer eventually reaches for.

JOBY comes from the camera-support world, and the Wavo POD is built to sit in a creator’s rig: a weighted desktop base for standalone use, and a standard mount thread so the microphone can move to a boom arm or tripod as the setup grows. The cardioid capsule focuses on the voice in front of it and rejects the keyboard, the room and the computer fans behind it — the right pattern for desk recording in real rooms.

Key features

• USB-C condenser microphone — plug and play
• Cardioid pattern tuned for voice at a desk
• 24-bit / 48 kHz audio capture
• On-mic gain, headphone volume and mute controls
• Zero-latency headphone monitoring output
• Weighted desktop base; mountable on arms and tripods
• Suits streaming, podcasting, calls and voiceover

Streaming and podcasting

The workflow is the product: speak 15–20 cm from the microphone, monitor through its own headphone jack so there is no echo of software delay, set gain so peaks stay green, and mute instantly when the doorbell rings. The cardioid pickup and close working distance do more for a stream’s sound than any plugin — the voice is forward and the room is quiet behind it.

Calls and content

For video calls, lessons and voiceover, the Wavo POD is simply a far better microphone than any laptop or webcam carries, recognised instantly by conferencing and recording software as a standard USB audio device. No interface, phantom power or drivers are involved.

Growing the setup

Start on the desk base; add a boom arm when the desk gets crowded; add a pop filter for close, plosive-heavy speech. The microphone’s mount compatibility means none of those steps replaces it.

If your recording happens at a computer and you want studio habits — gain, monitoring, mute — in one USB device, the Wavo POD is JOBY’s tidy answer.

Ownership notes

Keep the Wavo POD’s firmware and your recording apps current, and store the microphone on its base rather than loose in a drawer — the capsule end deserves the protection. If you record daily, a small ritual pays: check gain on the first sentence, glance at the mute state before going live, and keep the headphone plugged into the mic, not the computer. Those habits are the difference between a setup and a routine.
