The Beosound A9 is Bang & Olufsen’s iconic all-in-one home speaker, now in its fifth generation: a circular, fabric-faced disc on three legs that contains a complete seven-driver sound system with 1,500 watts of Class D amplification. This listing is the Black finish. The A9 is designed as furniture first and audio second in appearance only — beneath the Kvadrat fabric it is a serious loudspeaker, with a maximum output of 100 dB SPL and a frequency range of 33 Hz to 23 kHz, and Active Room Compensation that tunes it to wherever it stands.

Seven drivers, seven amplifiers
Every driver in the A9 has its own amplifier channel: 400 watts for the 8-inch woofer, 200 watts each for the two 3-inch midrange units and the two 1.5-inch full-range drivers, and 150 watts each for the two 3/4-inch tweeters. That per-driver control is what lets a single enclosure produce a soundstage wide enough to fill a 100-square-metre room — the recommended maximum — while keeping the composure of a conventional stereo system. Bass capability is rated at 95 dB SPL, remarkable for a speaker with no separate subwoofer.
Active Room Compensation
A built-in microphone measures how the room and the speaker’s position in it affect the sound — free-standing, against a wall or in a corner — and applies compensation automatically. Owners can fine-tune further with the Beosonic equaliser in the Bang & Olufsen app. The result is that the A9 does not need a laboratory listening position; it adapts to the place the furniture arrangement dictates.
Streaming and multiroom
The fifth-generation A9 runs on B&O’s Mozart platform with Wi-Fi 6: AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Deezer and B&O Radio are built in, Bluetooth 5.3 covers direct phone streaming, and Beolink Multiroom groups the A9 with other Bang & Olufsen speakers around the home. Two fifth-generation A9s can be configured as a true stereo pair. An Ethernet port and USB-C line-in (via adapter) cover wired sources.
Design and controls
The A9’s form — a 70 cm disc on three slender legs — has been in production since 2012 and is treated by its maker as a design object: covers are exchangeable, legs and rings are offered in different finishes, and an optional wall bracket replaces the legs. Volume is controlled by sliding a hand along the top edge; taps skip and pause. Typical power consumption is just 23 W.
