Bose SoundLink Max Portable Speaker (Black)

Bose SoundLink Max Portable Speaker (Black) – The Largest SoundLink, Built for Big Spaces

The Bose SoundLink Max in black is the biggest and most capable speaker in the SoundLink portable range. It is aimed at listeners who have found smaller Bluetooth speakers short on bass and volume: for outdoor gatherings, larger rooms, workshops and terraces, it delivers a scale of sound that compact portables cannot reach, while remaining a single grab-and-go unit with a carry handle.

Bose pairs two midrange transducers and a tweeter with passive radiators, supported by active equalisation that adjusts the balance as volume changes. The enclosure is built for life outside a living room, with a powder-coated steel grille, a silicone-wrapped body and sealing that keeps dust and water out.

Key features

• Two midrange transducers and a tweeter for clear stereo reproduction
• Passive radiators add deep, controlled low-frequency output
• Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX Adaptive for high-quality wireless streaming
• Up to 20 hours of battery life per charge
• IP67 rating for dust protection and water resistance
• USB-C port charges the speaker and can charge a phone
• 3.5 mm auxiliary input for wired sources
• Bose app control with adjustable EQ and settings
• Stereo pairing with a second SoundLink Max
• Removable rope handle and multipoint connection for two devices

Performance

Low frequencies are the obvious strength. The radiators move enough air that bass is felt as well as heard, yet the active processing keeps it from overwhelming vocals when the volume rises. Midrange clarity holds up outdoors, where many portables turn thin and harsh, and the stereo driver layout gives music a sense of width that mono speakers lack.

Output is sufficient for a garden gathering or a large open-plan room without the strained quality that comes from running a small speaker at its limit. Snapdragon Sound support with aptX Adaptive also keeps wireless quality high and latency low when streaming from compatible phones.

Design and build

The black finish combines a silicone exterior with a powder-coated, silicone-coated steel grille that resists rust, scratches and everyday knocks. The IP67 rating means the speaker tolerates dust, splashes and brief immersion, and it is buoyant if it ends up in water. At 2.22 kg it has reassuring substance without being awkward to carry, and the rope handle can be removed or swapped.

Battery and connectivity

The internal battery provides up to 20 hours of playback and recharges over USB-C in around five hours. The same port works in reverse as a power bank output for a phone. Bluetooth remembers multiple devices and supports multipoint connection, while Google Fast Pair simplifies setup with Android phones. A wired aux input covers DJ controllers, older players and any source without Bluetooth.

Choose the SoundLink Max in black if you want the fullest portable Bose sound available, with the battery life, weather resistance and build quality to use it indoors and outdoors without thinking twice.
