JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi Speaker

JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi Speaker

The JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi takes the familiar Charge formula of bold JBL Original Pro Sound, long battery life and a waterproof build, and adds Wi-Fi streaming so music at home plays in higher quality without tying up your phone. Stream over AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music or Spotify Connect on your home network, then switch to Bluetooth 5.3 when you head outside. A built-in powerbank charges your phone from the speaker’s battery, and the IP67 rating shrugs off pool water, rain and dust.

Key features

• Wi-Fi streaming plus Bluetooth 5.3
• 30 W RMS woofer and 10 W RMS tweeter
• Up to 20 hours of playtime
• IP67 waterproof and dustproof
• Built-in powerbank to charge devices
• AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Alexa Multi-Room Music and Spotify Connect
• JBL One app setup and control
• Recycled fabric and plastic in the design

Wi-Fi at home, Bluetooth anywhere

On Wi-Fi, the music streams directly from the network rather than through your phone, so a call, a video or a scrolling session does not interrupt the song, and audio quality is not limited by the Bluetooth link. AirPlay covers Apple households, Chromecast built-in covers Android and Google Home setups, Alexa Multi-Room Music lets the speaker join an Alexa group, and Spotify Connect hands control to the Spotify app. Away from home, Bluetooth 5.3 with A2DP and AVRCP profiles takes over with the same speaker, so one device covers the kitchen, the terrace and the trip.

Sound and battery

A racetrack-style woofer rated at 30 W RMS and a tweeter at 10 W RMS produce the Charge family’s full, bass-forward sound, with a dynamic frequency response of 60 Hz to 20 kHz. The rechargeable battery plays for up to 20 hours depending on volume and content, and recharges in about 6 hours over USB-C. The powerbank function shares that battery with a phone or tablet through the USB port, which is genuinely useful on a day out when both devices are running low.

Built for outdoors

IP67 means the speaker can be submerged in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes and is fully dust-tight, so beach sand, poolside splashes and monsoon showers are all in scope. The cabinet measures 22.3 x 9.7 x 9.4 cm and weighs 1 kg, small enough for a backpack side pocket or a cycle bottle cage on some frames. Materials include recycled fabric and plastic, and the packaging uses FSC-certified paper printed with soy ink.

Setup with the JBL One app

The JBL One app walks through Wi-Fi setup, manages streaming services and applies updates. On-device controls handle play, pause and volume when the phone is in another room. Note that this Wi-Fi version is a distinct model from the standard Charge 5: the Wi-Fi streaming features are the reason to choose it, and they need a home network to shine.

For households that stream music all day, the Charge 5 Wi-Fi removes the usual Bluetooth compromises at home while keeping full portability outside. It is a home speaker and a travel speaker in one waterproof body, with enough battery to cover both roles on a single charge.
