JBL Clip 4 Portable Speaker – Blue

JBL Clip 4 Portable Speaker – Blue

The JBL Clip 4 is the ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker designed to be carried on the outside of the bag, not inside it. Its defining feature is the fully integrated carabiner — a wide metal clip built into the frame of the speaker — which hooks onto backpack straps, belt loops, bike frames and buckles in a second and stays there. Behind the colourful fabric grille, a 40 mm driver produces JBL Original Pro Sound with more body and punch than the speaker’s 239 g weight suggests. This Blue version wears the bright, outdoorsy finish that stands out against trail and travel gear and is easy to spot in a full pack.

The Clip 4 keeps its brief focused: Bluetooth 5.1 wireless streaming, up to 10 hours of playtime, IP67 waterproof and dustproof sealing, and USB Type-C charging. There are no apps to configure and no pairing modes to learn — power on, connect, clip on and go. It remains a favourite for walkers, cyclists, commuters and travellers precisely because everything about it is single-purpose and immediate.

Small speaker, proper sound

The Clip 4’s single 40 mm transducer is rated at 5 W RMS with a frequency response of 100 Hz to 20 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio above 85 dB. In practice that means clear, forward vocals, enough bass presence to give pop and acoustic tracks shape, and volume that comfortably covers a small group outdoors — remarkable output for a speaker that fits in one hand. The oval shape is not just styling: it sits flat against a bag or hip rather than rolling, and the fabric wrap gives grip when hands are wet or gloved.

Battery and Bluetooth

The lithium-ion polymer battery (3.885 Wh) is rated for up to 10 hours of playback depending on volume and content, with a full recharge in about 3 hours over USB Type-C — the same cable standard as most current phones, so one charger covers both. Bluetooth 5.1 provides the wireless link from phones, tablets and laptops, with A2DP and AVRCP profiles handling music streaming and remote control from the speaker’s own buttons: play and pause, track skip and volume are all on the body, along with the power and pairing keys on the edge.

Ready for weather, finished in Blue

IP67 certification means the Clip 4 is dust-tight and can be submerged a metre deep for up to 30 minutes, so it shrugs off rain on a trek, splashes at the pool and sand at the beach; rinse it under a tap and it is ready again. The redesigned carabiner is wider and stronger than the previous generation’s clip and is integrated into the speaker for extra protection rather than attached as an afterthought. The Blue finish suits the speaker’s natural habitat — bright against outdoor kit, visible in a dark tent, and cheerful on a desk between trips.

For music that travels on the outside of the pack and survives whatever the day does, the Clip 4 in Blue is the proven, grab-and-go answer.
