JBL Flip 7 Portable Speaker – Black

JBL Flip 7 Portable Speaker – Black

The JBL Flip 7 in black is the current generation of the portable speaker line that defined its category: a compact cylinder that sounds far bigger than it looks, shrugs off water and drops, and disappears into a bag between uses. This generation adds JBL AI Sound Boost, Auracast multi-speaker connection, a push-lock carabiner for carrying and a tougher IP68 build, while keeping the simple formula that made the Flip a default recommendation. Black is the original, goes-with-everything finish.

Inside, a 45 x 80 mm racetrack woofer handles the lows and mids with 25 W RMS, a 16 mm tweeter adds 10 W RMS of clean high frequencies, and passive radiators at each end reinforce the bass. Total output is 35 W RMS, a healthy step for a speaker of this size, and the frequency response runs from 60 Hz to 20 kHz. It is a speaker for kitchens, desks, balconies, bathrooms, picnics and travel, equally happy as a daily background-music player or the one speaker packed for a trip.

Sound that punches above its size

The Flip formula works because the tuning prioritises what small speakers usually lose: bass weight and vocal clarity at moderate volumes, and composure when the volume rises. AI Sound Boost is the new part of that story. It analyses the incoming signal in real time and adjusts the drive to the woofer so the speaker can play louder with less distortion, rather than simply limiting everything when the music gets busy. The result is a Flip that fills a room or an outdoor seating area more confidently than its dimensions suggest, while dialogue on podcasts and videos stays clear at the low volumes used on a desk or bedside table.

Built for water, dust and drops

An IP68 rating means the Flip 7 is dust-tight and can handle immersion in water, so rain, poolside splashes, beach sand and bathroom steam are working conditions rather than hazards. JBL also rates this generation as drop-proof, and the fabric-wrapped body with its chunky end caps is designed to be grabbed, tossed into a bag and carried by its carabiner without ceremony. The black finish hides the scuffs of that lifestyle better than most, which is one reason it remains the best-selling colour in the range.

Battery, pairing and going bigger

The lithium-ion polymer battery is rated for up to 14 hours of playback, and Playtime Boost trades a little maximum impact for up to 16 hours when the day runs long. Charging takes about 2.5 hours over USB-C. Bluetooth 5.4 pairing is quick and stable, and Auracast changes what one Flip can do: broadcast the same music to multiple Auracast-compatible JBL speakers at once, or pair two Flip 7 units for a wider stereo presentation, all arranged through the JBL Portable app. The app also provides equaliser adjustment and firmware updates.

Pick the black Flip 7 if you want the current Flip in its most versatile finish: a waterproof everyday speaker with genuine output, a full day of battery and a simple route to multi-speaker sound when one speaker stops being enough.
