Loewe Klang MR1 Wireless Speaker (Grey)

Loewe Klang MR1 Wireless Speaker (Grey)

The Loewe klang mr1 is the compact model in Loewe’s klang mr multiroom family, a wireless streaming speaker finished in basalt grey acoustic fabric with a glass touch panel on top. A full-range driver supported by a passive radiator delivers 30 watts of music power (15 W RMS audio output) across a frequency response of 75 Hz to 20 kHz, a specification aimed at kitchens, bedrooms, studies and other smaller rooms where a single, self-contained speaker has to cover music, radio and podcasts convincingly. The conical, fabric-covered cabinet carries an illuminated status LED in the centre of the panel, a deliberate homage to the classic Loewe eye, and the whole design is intended to sit quietly in a living space rather than dominate it.

Streaming is platform-open rather than locked to one ecosystem. The klang mr1 supports DTS Play-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast built-in, so it can multiroom with speakers from any of those ecosystems and stream services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer and internet radio, and it is also Roon Ready for listeners who manage their library through Roon. Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP and AVRCP covers direct playback from a phone, while a 3.5 mm line-in and wired Ethernet sit alongside dual-band Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) for installations that prefer a cable. Voice control works through an optional Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa device on the same network.

One speaker, several roles

Used on its own, the mr1 is a complete room streamer. Two can be paired for stereo in a small to medium-sized room, and several spread around the home form a Play-Fi multiroom system that plays the same programme everywhere or something different in each room. Less commonly for a multiroom speaker, a pair can also work as low-latency rear surround satellites for a Loewe soundbar or television over WDAL 2.0 (Wireless Digital Audio Link), extending a TV setup to genuine surround sound without running speaker cable across the room.

Controls and daily use

The glass top panel stores up to five favourites, which can be any mix of sources and stations, for one-touch playback without reaching for a phone, alongside volume adjustment, track skip and pause. Standby consumption is 0.3 W, rising to between 4 W and 7 W in network standby, so the speaker can stay connected and ready around the clock without a meaningful power draw. The supplied wall bracket, with magnetic covers for the bracket and the base of the speaker, allows the mr1 to be mounted where shelf space is scarce.

Design and finish

Loewe builds the klang series around a gentle conical form wrapped in a specially developed acoustic fabric, with the glass control surface and its illuminated LED as the only visual interruption. This listing is the grey finish. At 160 x 188 x 154 mm and 1.2 kg, the mr1 is small enough for a kitchen worktop, a bedside table or a bookshelf, and its proportions match the larger klang mr3 and mr5 models if the system grows later.

The klang mr1 suits design-led homes that want multiroom streaming in smaller rooms from a speaker that looks like furniture, and Loewe television or soundbar owners who want wireless surround satellites from the same family.
