Marshall Acton III Bluetooth Speaker (Brown)

Marshall Acton III Bluetooth Speaker (Brown)

The Acton III is the most compact speaker in Marshall’s home line-up, built for listeners who want proper stereo sound on a shelf, sideboard or desk without giving up floor space. Behind its brown vinyl wrap and brass detailing sits a three-amplifier system: a 30-watt Class D amplifier drives the woofer while a pair of 15-watt Class D amplifiers power the two tweeters, for 60 watts of total output. That is a lot of hardware for a cabinet measuring just 260 mm wide, and it shows in the way the Acton III fills a room far beyond what its size suggests, reaching a maximum sound pressure level of 95 dB at one metre.

Marshall has voiced this generation with a wider soundstage than the model it replaces. The tweeters are angled outward to spread high frequencies across the listening area, and the bass-reflex cabinet keeps low end full and controlled at everyday volumes. The frequency range runs from 45 Hz to 20,000 Hz, so the speaker covers the fundamentals of bass lines as well as the air and detail at the top of the spectrum.

Key Features

Three Class D amplifiers deliver 60 watts in total, split between one woofer and two tweeters for genuine stereo playback from a single cabinet. Bluetooth 5.2 provides the wireless connection with a range of up to 10 metres, and the chipset is ready for the next generation of Bluetooth features including LE Audio as the standard rolls out. A 3.5 mm input sits alongside Bluetooth for wired sources such as turntables with a phono stage, CD players or older phones and laptops.

The top panel keeps Marshall’s signature analogue controls: brass knobs for volume, bass and treble let you shape the sound by hand, with a play/pause button and a source selector completing the layout. Two pieces of processing work in the background. Dynamic Loudness adjusts tonal balance as volume changes so music keeps its character when played quietly, and Placement Compensation measures the speaker’s surroundings and corrects for nearby walls and surfaces.

Everyday Listening, Tuned to the Room

Most home speakers are placed where furniture allows rather than where acoustics dictate, often close to a wall that exaggerates bass. Placement Compensation exists for exactly that situation, trimming the low-end reinforcement that boundaries create. Combined with the manual bass and treble knobs, it gives the Acton III a degree of room adaptability that small speakers rarely offer. The Marshall Bluetooth app adds firmware updates over the air, so the speaker can gain features and refinements after purchase.

Where It Fits

The Acton III suits bedrooms, studies, kitchens and living rooms where a full hi-fi system is impractical but sound quality still matters. It works as a single-speaker stereo for streaming, an upgrade for a desktop setup via its wired input, or a design-led piece that happens to play music well. The build avoids PVC and uses 70 percent recycled plastic, pairing the classic Marshall look with more considered materials.
