Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker – Black

Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker – Black – Full Sonos Sound for Home and Outdoors

The Sonos Move 2 in Black is a portable speaker with a split personality, in the best sense. At home it sits on its charging base and behaves like any other Sonos speaker, streaming over Wi-Fi, grouping with other rooms and answering voice commands. Pick it up by the integrated handle and it becomes a rugged Bluetooth speaker for the balcony, terrace, garden or picnic, with a battery that runs for a full day of listening.

Most portable speakers force a compromise between convenience and sound. The Move 2 is built to avoid it. It carries a genuine stereo driver array, automatic room tuning that works wherever you set it down, and weather resistance for outdoor use, in a cabinet that still looks at home on a kitchen counter or bookshelf.

Sound performance

The Move 2 steps up from the original Move with a revised acoustic architecture that produces true stereo from a single cabinet. Two angled tweeters create a sense of width that mono portables cannot manage, while the midwoofer gives vocals body and bass genuine presence. Automatic Trueplay runs continuously rather than once, re-measuring the surroundings each time the speaker moves, so it sounds right on a desk, on grass, or beside a pool without manual EQ work.

Three Class-D amplifiers are tuned to the drivers, and the sealed, rugged cabinet keeps the sound focused at outdoor volumes where lesser portables thin out or distort.

Battery, charging and durability

The battery delivers up to 24 hours of playback, roughly double the first-generation Move, and the speaker can also serve as a power bank for a phone through its USB-C port. At home it drops onto the included charging base; away from home, USB-C charging keeps it compatible with ordinary chargers. The IP56 rating means dust, splashes and rain showers are not a concern, and the housing is designed to survive the knocks and drops that portable use eventually involves.

Controls and connectivity

On Wi-Fi, the Move 2 is a full member of a Sonos system, with multiroom grouping, stereo pairing with a second Move 2, and voice control through Sonos Voice Control or Alexa. The microphone can be switched off physically for privacy. Touch controls on the top panel handle volume, playback and microphone muting, and a battery status indicator keeps charge in view. Away from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth pairing is quick, and the USB-C line-in covers sources that have no wireless option at all.

The Move 2 suits listeners who want one speaker to cover the house and everything beyond it, without accepting portable-speaker sound quality. If your listening moves between rooms, the terrace and the outdoors, this is the Sonos that moves with you.
