boAt Aavante Bar 503 10W Bluetooth Soundbar – Black

The boAt Aavante Bar 503 is a compact 2.0-channel Bluetooth soundbar in black, rated at 10W RMS, sized for a desk, a bedroom television or a small living room where a full home-theatre system is not on the cards. It plays wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.0 or through its wired and local inputs, AUX, USB and TF card, runs from a built-in rechargeable battery for about 4.5 hours per charge, and carries dual passive radiators and two switchable EQ modes. A built-in microphone lets it double as a hands-free speaker for calls from a connected phone.

Sound for small rooms and desks

Ten watts RMS through a stereo bar with dual passive radiators is a clear step up from the speakers built into laptops and most small televisions: dialogue sits forward, music has body, and the passive radiators give bass lines a weight that a plain compact speaker cannot reach. The published frequency range runs from 80Hz to 20kHz, which matches the bar’s job: voices, television sound and everyday music in rooms where volume demands are modest. Two EQ modes let you tilt the presentation between a bass-emphasised setting for music and a balanced setting that keeps speech clear for news, serials and calls.

Connections, in order of use

Bluetooth 5.0 is the everyday route: pair a phone, tablet or laptop once and the bar reconnects for music, videos and calls, with a working range of up to 10 metres in open space. The AUX input takes any source with a 3.5mm output, including older televisions and computers without Bluetooth. USB and TF card playback play files directly from local storage, which suits a fixed desk or kitchen setup that should play music without a phone involved. Note what is not fitted: there is no HDMI ARC or optical input, so a television connects here by AUX or Bluetooth, and that should be checked against the TV’s outputs before planning the installation.

Battery and placement

The internal battery gives roughly 4.5 hours of playback and recharges over USB Type-C in about 3 hours, so the bar can move between a desk, a bedroom and a balcony without trailing a power supply, then live on a shelf wired to its charger the rest of the time. Place it unobstructed, at or near ear height relative to the listening position, with the front grille facing the room; a bar pushed to the back of a deep shelf or hidden behind a monitor loses the clarity that is the point of having it.

Calls and controls

The built-in microphone supports hands-free calls when the bar is connected to a phone over Bluetooth, handy at a desk where the phone can stay in a pocket or on charge across the room. Keep the bar within a few metres and speak towards it for the clearest results, as with any speakerphone.

The Aavante Bar 503 Black is a small, battery-carrying soundbar that covers the common connections honestly: Bluetooth for phones, AUX for screens, local playback for itself, and enough output to make a small room sound finished.
