The Devialet Dione is a single-box Dolby Atmos soundbar that reproduces a 5.1.2 channel layout without a separate subwoofer or satellite speakers. Seventeen custom neodymium drivers are fitted inside a cabinet 1,200 mm wide: nine full-range aluminium drivers handle the main, height and centre information, while eight long-throw aluminium subwoofers, driven with Devialet SAM processing, produce the low frequencies that most soundbars offload to an external box. Total amplification is rated at 950 watts RMS, with a maximum sound pressure level of 101 dB at one metre and a frequency response extending from 24 Hz to 21 kHz.

How the driver array works

Spreading seventeen drivers across one bar only works if the processing keeps them coherent. The Devialet Intelligence Processor combines the ADH amplification architecture, SAM speaker active matching, a 24-bit 96 kHz digital to analogue converter and the DOS 2 operating system in one platform. Advanced Dimensional Experience processing uses the physical placement of the drivers with digital filtering to widen the perceived sound field beyond the width of the cabinet, while Adaptive Volume Level acts as a dynamic equaliser that lifts quiet dialogue relative to loud effects in real time. Four listening modes are provided: Movie and Spatial for upmixed multichannel playback, Music for true stereo and Voice for speech emphasis.

The ORB centre channel

The sphere in the middle of the bar is not decoration. It houses the centre channel and it physically rotates, so the driver faces the listener whether the bar lies flat on a media unit or hangs vertically on a wall. A gyroscope detects the orientation and the acoustic configuration changes with it, reversing the appropriate channels when the bar is wall mounted. Centre channel clarity decides whether dialogue stays intelligible during action scenes, and giving that channel its own steerable enclosure is the Dione approach to a problem most flat bars solve only with processing.

Connections and placement

Television audio arrives over HDMI eARC on an HDMI 2.1 connection, or through the optical TOSLINK input for older sets, and CEC allows the television remote to control volume. Wireless options cover dual-band Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.0, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and UPnP network playback, with setup and adjustment handled in the Devialet app. The cabinet is 77 mm high, or 88 mm including the sphere, and 165 mm deep, and it weighs 12 kg, so a wall installation needs a solid fixing into a structural surface.

Dione is aimed at rooms where a full receiver and speaker package is not wanted but television sound from the set speakers is not acceptable either. Its low frequency extension to 24 Hz means film effects and music bass are reproduced by the bar itself, and the absence of a separate subwoofer keeps both the visual footprint and the cable count down to a single unit under the screen.
