The Heston Sub 200 is Marshall’s first dedicated subwoofer, built as the low-frequency partner for the Heston 120 and Heston 60 TV soundbars — and, unusually for a wireless sub, it is not locked into its own family. It pairs wirelessly over Bluetooth LE Audio with the Heston soundbars, and a wired RCA mono sub input lets it connect to any soundbar, AV receiver, integrated amplifier or network player that has a subwoofer output. Inside the compact cabinet, two 5.25-inch woofers are each driven by their own 120W Class D amplifier — 236W peak in total — in a ported bass-reflex enclosure, producing a maximum sound pressure level of 99 dB and a frequency range of 30 to 150 Hz.

Wireless pairing is the point of the design: with no signal cable to run, the subwoofer can sit where the room sounds best rather than where the cable reaches. Setup and tuning run through the Marshall app, which handles pairing, volume, crossover frequency and phase inversion; a knurled volume knob with an LED ring on the unit itself covers quick level changes. The enclosure follows the Heston design language — wood cabinet wrapped in PU leather with metal details, in black or cream — and continues Marshall’s repairability approach: the fret, feet, drivers and circuit boards are replaceable parts.

Why two small woofers instead of one large one

Subwoofer cabinets grow quickly when a single 10- or 12-inch driver is used. The Sub 200 splits the work across two 5.25-inch woofers in a symmetrical layout, which keeps the cabinet close to an 11-inch cube while still moving enough air for film effects and music bass lines. Each woofer has its own amplifier channel, so output stays controlled at higher levels, and the ported enclosure trades a little ultimate extension for efficiency — the sub reaches 30 Hz, deep enough for the weight and impact in most soundtracks, while staying small enough to tuck beside a sofa or TV stand.

Placement and tuning

Because the connection is wireless, placement experiments cost nothing: try the sub near a wall or corner for boundary reinforcement, or closer to the seating for a more direct feel, then set the crossover in the app so the sub hands over to the soundbar where the soundbar’s own output fades. Phase inversion in the app aligns the sub’s output with the soundbar at the crossover point, which is the adjustment that most affects whether bass sounds unified or detached.
