Polk Audio Signature Elite ES60 Floor Standing Speakers (Pair)

Polk Audio Signature Elite ES60 Floor Standing Speakers (Pair)

The Polk Audio Signature Elite ES60 is the flagship floor standing loudspeaker of the Signature Elite series, supplied here as a matched pair for the main left and right channels of a stereo or home theatre system. Each tower combines a 1-inch Terylene high-resolution dome tweeter with three 6.5-inch Dynamic Balance mica-fortified polypropylene woofers in a tall, slim cabinet fitted with Polk Power Port bass technology. The ES60 is Hi-Res Audio Certified, with an overall frequency response extending from 36 Hz to 40,000 Hz, so it reproduces both the weight of a film soundtrack and the fine top-end detail of high-resolution music files. Voicing is shared across the Signature Elite family, which keeps tonal matching straightforward when the pair is combined with other models from the same range as centre and surround channels.

Key features

• Flagship tower design: The largest model in the Signature Elite series, built for main-channel duties in medium and larger rooms.
• Terylene dome tweeter: A 1-inch (2.54 cm) high-resolution dome tweeter, Hi-Res Audio Certified for extension to 40 kHz and beyond.
• Triple woofer array: Three 6.5-inch (16.51 cm) Dynamic Balance mica-fortified polypropylene drivers share bass and midrange work for lower distortion at higher levels.
• Power Port technology: Polk’s port design smooths air flow at the port mouth, giving deeper bass output with reduced turbulence and chuffing.
• High sensitivity: Rated at 90 dB (1 watt at 1 metre), so the ES60 reaches convincing levels without demanding extreme amplifier power.
• Flexible amplifier matching: Compatible with 4-ohm and 8-ohm amplifier outputs, with recommended power of 20 to 300 watts per channel.
• Bi-wire ready terminals: Dual gold-plated 5-way binding posts allow single-wire, bi-wire or bi-amp connection.
• Precision crossover: A newly developed crossover network, crossing over at 2,500 Hz, blends the tweeter and woofer array into a single coherent source.

Driver design and Dynamic Balance engineering

Polk’s Dynamic Balance approach analyses the behaviour of the complete driver and cabinet system, then tunes materials and geometry to suppress resonances that would otherwise colour the sound. The woofer cones use mica-fortified polypropylene, a stiff, light material that holds its shape under excursion, supported by a butyl rubber surround, a ceramic motor structure and a high-temperature Conex fibre spider. Working in a three-way tapered array, the three woofers hand over duties progressively, which keeps midrange clarity intact even when the lower drivers are moving large amounts of air. The result is a speaker that stays composed on dense orchestral passages and effects-heavy soundtracks alike.

High-resolution treble and system matching

The Terylene dome tweeter is the same high-resolution unit used across the Signature Elite range, and its certification for playback beyond 40 kHz reflects the bandwidth demanded by modern high-resolution formats and ultra-HD film audio. Because every Signature Elite model shares this tweeter and the same Dynamic Balance woofer philosophy, the ES60 pair integrates tonally with Signature Elite centre and surround speakers, and it is also described by Polk as compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X based systems when used as the front stage of a larger installation.

Placement and setup

At 44.5 inches (113.03 cm) tall and 52 lbs (23.59 kg) per speaker, each ES60 is a substantial cabinet that benefits from symmetrical placement either side of the screen or listening axis, with the supplied base widening the footprint to 11.7 inches (29.7 cm) for stability. Experimenting with distance from the rear wall fine-tunes the Power Port bass output, and a modest toe-in toward the listening position sharpens centre imaging. The dual binding posts are clearly marked for correct polarity, and the gold plating resists corrosion over long service life.

The ES60 pair suits listeners who want a full-range front stage that needs no subwoofer for most music, yet scales confidently when a subwoofer and additional channels are added for cinema use.
