The Q Acoustics 3050i is a two-way floorstanding loudspeaker, supplied here as a stereo pair in Carbon Black. Two 165 mm bass drivers and a 22 mm decoupled tweeter work in a tall, narrow reflex cabinet whose internal pressure behaviour is managed by HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer) technology. That combination produces a speaker that fills a room with scale and low-end weight while keeping the cabinet itself out of the sound. Point-to-Point bracing stiffens the enclosure where it matters, the tweeter is mechanically decoupled from the baffle, and low-profile binding posts let the speakers sit close to a rear wall even with banana plugs fitted. HPE and Point-to-Point: why the cabinet stays quiet

Tall floorstanding enclosures tend to resonate at one favoured frequency, which colours bass and blurs detail. HPE converts that internal pressure into velocity, equalising the pressure gradient inside the cabinet so the resonance has far less energy to work with. Point-to-Point bracing then reinforces only the panels that measurements show need stiffening, rather than adding blanket mass. The audible result is a cleaner midrange and a stereo image that stays stable when the music gets busy, because the box is contributing less of its own sound to what the drivers produce.

Drivers and dispersion

Using two 165 mm drivers instead of one larger unit gives the 3050i generous low-frequency output while keeping cone excursion, and therefore distortion, under control at each driver. The 22 mm tweeter sits in a decoupled mount isolated from baffle vibration, and its wide surround spreads high frequencies evenly across the room. That wide, even dispersion means the speakers sound balanced from more than one seat, not only from a single sweet spot, which suits family listening and film nights. The crossover hands over between bass and treble at 2.5 kHz, and sensitivity of 91 dB makes the 3050i an easy load for most stereo amplifiers and AV receivers.

Placement and partnering

With an average impedance of 6 ohms and a 4 ohm minimum, the 3050i partners comfortably with stereo amplifiers rated from 25 W to 180 W, or an AV receiver delivering 50 W to 165 W per channel in two-channel drive. Low-profile binding posts remove the usual rear clearance problem, and the supplied foam bungs can be inserted into the rear ports to tame bass if the speakers must stand close to a wall. Stabiliser feet and spikes are included for a level, secure footing on hard floors.

Each speaker stands 1020 mm tall with a slim 200 mm enclosure width and weighs 17.8 kg, so the pair presents a neat profile despite its output.
