Ahuja PA-402T Wall Speaker

Ahuja PA-402T Wall Speaker

The Ahuja PA-402T, also designated AMH-402T, is a 2-way PA music horn speaker built for distributed public address where speech and background music both have to carry. Unlike a plain paging horn, which is voiced mainly for voice, this model pairs a 6-inch Kevlar cone woofer with a 1-inch phenolic dome tweeter, so announcements stay intelligible and music retains body and top-end detail. It is rated at 40 W RMS and connects to a 100 V line, the standard way of feeding many speakers from one amplifier over long cable runs.

The housing is UV-protected ABS and the design is weather-protected, which is why this type of speaker appears indoors and outdoors in the same installation: corridors and halls inside, courtyards, platforms and open work areas outside. A rotary tap selector at the rear sets how much power each speaker draws from the line, so a single amplifier can serve quiet rooms and noisy open spaces at sensible relative levels.

Key features

• 40 W RMS input power on a 100 V distributed line
• Four power taps: 40, 20, 10 and 5 W, selected at the speaker
• 2-way design with 6-inch Kevlar cone woofer and 1-inch phenolic dome tweeter
• High sensitivity of 98 dB at 1 W, 1 m, reaching 114 dB at 40 W
• Frequency response of 120 Hz to 16,000 Hz for clear speech and music
• Weather-protected, UV-protected ABS housing for indoor and outdoor mounting

Why a music horn, not a plain horn

A conventional horn is efficient but narrow in response, which suits sirens and short voice messages. A music horn keeps much of that efficiency while extending the response at both ends. The Kevlar woofer handles the lower midrange that gives voices weight, and the separate dome tweeter covers the consonant range that makes words understandable at distance. The result is a speaker that can play background music through the day and still cut through ambient noise when an announcement is made, without swapping hardware between the two jobs.

Planning a 100 V line around it

On a 100 V system, each speaker’s tap setting is its share of the amplifier’s output. Add the taps of every speaker on the line and keep the total comfortably below the amplifier rating, leaving headroom for peaks. Use the 40 W or 20 W taps where the area is large or noisy, and 10 W or 5 W in smaller, quieter rooms. The corresponding tap impedances are 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 ohms. Keep polarity consistent across all speakers, use cable of adequate thickness for the run length, and set taps with the amplifier switched off.

Where it works best

Typical locations include railway stations, schools and colleges, factories, warehouses, places of worship, stadiums and open institutional campuses. At W370 x H255 x D300 mm and 5.9 kg, it is a substantial unit that mounts as a fixed installation rather than a portable speaker, and its weather-protected build suits semi-exposed positions under eaves and canopies as well as fully indoor walls.

For an installation that needs one speaker type to handle both music and paging, indoors and out, the PA-402T is a practical, efficient choice with the output and tap flexibility to fit most 100 V line designs.
