Bose FreeSpace FS4SE Surface-Mount Loudspeaker (White)

Bose FreeSpace FS4SE Surface-Mount Loudspeaker (White)

The Bose FreeSpace FS4SE is a surface-mount loudspeaker for commercial installations: background music and paging in cafes, retail stores, restaurants, hotels and outdoor seating areas. This listing is the white finish. A single full-range 4.5-inch driver covers a frequency range of 70 Hz to 17 kHz, voiced for clear speech and smooth background music at the levels such systems normally run at, with a calculated maximum SPL of 106 dB at 1 metre when more output is needed. It provides 70V and 100V transformer taps alongside an 8 ohm bypass, so one model serves distributed commercial systems and low-impedance installations.

Key features

• Full-range 4.5-inch (114 mm) driver for voice and background music
• Frequency response of 80 Hz to 16 kHz at -3 dB; range of 70 Hz to 17 kHz at -10 dB
• 70V taps of 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 40 W and 100V taps of 5, 10, 20 and 40 W, plus 8 ohm bypass
• IP55 rated for outdoor, wet-location installation
• 89 dB sensitivity and 106 dB calculated maximum SPL at 1 metre
• Wide nominal coverage of 130 degrees horizontal by 125 degrees vertical
• EN 54-24 certified for voice alarm systems and UL 1480 UUMW listed
• Euroblock inputs with a weather-resistant input cover

One Model for Indoor, Outdoor and Life-Safety Use

Commercial projects often need separate speaker types for indoor areas, weather-exposed areas and voice alarm circuits. The FS4SE covers all three in one model. Its engineered-plastic enclosure is highly resistant to UV fading, rated IP55 for direct-exposure outdoor and wet installations, and fitted with a weather-resistant input cover. At the same time, EN 54-24 certification and UL 1480 UUMW and CAN/ULC-S541 listings qualify it for voice alarm and fire signalling applications. Specifying one speaker across a project simplifies ordering, spares and installation practice.

Coverage and Voicing

Background systems fail when coverage is uneven: one table sits in a hot spot while the next is straining to hear announcements. The FS4SE’s nominal coverage of 130 degrees horizontally and 125 degrees vertically spreads sound broadly from each mounting point, and it shares its voicing with the other models in the FreeSpace FS family, so ceiling, pendant and surface-mount versions used in different parts of the same building keep a consistent tonal character. Bose recommends high-pass protection at 70 Hz with a minimum 24 dB per octave filter.

Power Handling and Installation

Long-term power handling is 40 W on the Bose extended-lifecycle test, with 160 W peak, and the transformer taps let an installer set each speaker’s level at the speaker itself in a distributed system. Euroblock connectors make termination straightforward and serviceable. The enclosure measures 254 x 171 x 174 mm and weighs 3.1 kg with grille and bracket, in a white finish similar to RAL 9003, with a powder-coated steel grille and bracket.
