The TASCAM MZ-372 is a 3U rackmount zone mixer designed for fixed installations in hotels, conference centres, bars, theme parks and public facilities. It takes six playback or microphone sources, plus a dedicated front-panel announcement microphone, mixes them with the channel controls of a small live mixer, and sends the result to two main outputs that feed separate areas of a building. Everything is analogue, direct and built for equipment racks that run all day, every day.

Each of the six main channels offers three selectable sources: two unbalanced RCA stereo pairs for media players, tuners, streamers and other playback devices, and one balanced XLR connector that switches between microphone and line level. That gives twelve RCA stereo pairs and six XLR inputs in total, chosen per channel with A/B/C selector switches, so a venue can keep far more sources connected than it uses at once. Channels 2, 3 and 4 can also be switched to phono level for record players. Every channel has a gain control, a three-band equaliser, a 100 mm fader and an LED level meter.

Announcements that cut through

The front-panel microphone input uses its own preamp and a talkover circuit: speak into the announcement microphone and the music level drops automatically, then returns when you finish. The main mic channel has its own level control and two-band EQ, independent of the six source channels, which makes it the natural home for reception desks, MC microphones and paging points. Because talkover is applied at the mixer, announcements stay clear in whichever area is fed from the outputs.

Two outputs, plus sub and monitor feeds

The two main outputs carry the stereo mix to two amplifier chains or two areas, each with its own master level control and stereo LED meter. Having both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors on each output makes integration straightforward with professional power amplifiers as well as consumer equipment. A sub output with level control and mono or stereo selection can drive an additional room or a recorder, while the monitor output provides a further stereo feed with independent level. Measured performance is installation-grade: 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, distortion of 0.03 percent or less, a signal-to-noise ratio of 80 dB or more and crosstalk attenuation above 65 dB.

Built for the rack

The MZ-372 occupies 3U of a standard 19-inch rack, measures 482 x 132 x 93 mm and weighs 3.2 kg. It runs from the supplied dedicated AC adapter on 100 to 240 volt mains and consumes 35 watts. For venues juggling music sources, turntables, microphones and announcements across two areas, it replaces a stack of switchers and small mixers with one purposeful front panel.
