Jbl Stage 245C Center Channel Speaker

JBL Stage 245C Center Channel Speaker – Dialogue That Stays Locked to the Screen

The JBL Stage 245C is a centre channel loudspeaker from the Stage 2 series, designed to handle the most important channel in a home theatre system. In film and television soundtracks, the centre carries the great majority of dialogue along with much of the on-screen action. Placed above or below the TV and driven by the centre output of an AV receiver, the 245C keeps voices anchored to the picture instead of spreading them across the room.

It is a passive speaker, voiced to blend with Stage 2 floorstanding and bookshelf models used as front left and right channels, so the front soundstage stays tonally consistent as sounds pan across the screen. For anyone upgrading from TV speakers or a soundbar, a dedicated centre of this scale is the change that makes dialogue intelligibility stop being a problem.

Performance

The quad woofer array gives the 245C unusual headroom for a centre speaker. Two of the drivers handle the lower frequencies while all four contribute through the midrange, so dialogue stays full-bodied and effects retain impact without the thin, strained quality of a small single-woofer centre. Speech remains clear at low listening levels, which matters for late-night viewing, and the speaker stays composed when a soundtrack gets loud.

The aluminium dome tweeter sits in JBL loudspeaker HDI waveguide, a geometry developed to control dispersion and reduce diffraction. In practice, that means listeners seated off to the side still hear balanced high frequencies and intelligible dialogue, rather than a sweet spot that only works from one chair.

Design and placement

The cabinet is wide, as a quad-driver centre needs to be, measuring 740 mm across, 156 mm high and 217 mm deep, with a weight of 12.0 kg. It fits on a media console or a shelf beneath a wall-mounted screen, and the supplied anti-slip pads hold it securely while damping vibration. The magnetically attached grille keeps the front clean, and the dual rear ports benefit from a small gap between the cabinet and the wall behind it.

System matching

As a 6-ohm passive design, the 245C connects with standard speaker cable to any home theatre receiver. Pairing it with Stage 2 series front speakers gives the front three channels a shared voicing, so a voice moving across the screen does not change character on the way. It also works as the centre in a mixed system where clear dialogue is the priority.

Choose the Stage 245C if dialogue is the weak point of your home theatre and you want a substantial, receiver-friendly centre speaker that anchors the front soundstage with clarity and authority.
