Samsung T7 Portable SSD 2TB (Grey)

This is the 2 TB version of Samsung’s Portable SSD T7, finished in grey (Titan Gray), model MU-PC2T0T. It is an external solid state drive about the size of a credit card, built for people whose work no longer fits comfortably on a laptop’s internal drive: video editors carrying project files and footage, photographers moving full shoots, musicians with sample libraries, and office users who need a fast, pocketable backup. Because it is an SSD with no moving parts, transfers that take many minutes on a portable hard drive are completed in a fraction of the time, and the drive tolerates the knocks of daily travel far better.

Key features

• 2 TB capacity in a pocket-sized drive measuring 85 x 57 x 8 mm and weighing 58 g
• Sequential read speeds up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,000 MB/s
• USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface with USB Type-C connection and PCIe NVMe technology inside
• AES 256-bit hardware encryption with optional password protection
• Shock resistance from drops of up to 2 metres, with a metal unibody enclosure
• Dynamic Thermal Guard and ePCM technology to manage heat during long transfers
• Supplied with both USB Type-C to C and Type-C to A cables

Speed that changes how you work

The T7’s USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection offers 10 Gbps of bandwidth, and the embedded PCIe NVMe storage uses it to reach sequential reads of up to 1,050 MB/s and writes of up to 1,000 MB/s, roughly twice the performance of the earlier T5 generation. In practice that means a day’s camera footage, a virtual machine image or a full project folder can be copied during a short break rather than as an end-of-day chore. To see those figures the host computer also needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and UASP support; connected to an older USB port the drive still works, at the speed that port allows.

Security and durability for travel

Data on the T7 can be protected with a password backed by AES 256-bit hardware encryption, so a lost drive does not automatically become a lost archive of client work or personal photographs. The solid aluminium unibody has no moving parts to damage, and Samsung rates the drive to survive drops of up to two metres. Samsung’s security and management software supports setup on Windows and Mac computers, and the drive is also compatible with Android devices, games consoles and other USB storage hosts, so the same drive can serve a desk, a laptop bag and a living room.

Heat management during long transfers

Fast external drives can slow down partway through a very large copy as they heat up. The T7 addresses this with an advanced thermal solution combining ePCM material in the enclosure with Dynamic Thermal Guard, which monitors temperature and manages performance to keep the drive at a suitable operating level during sustained work. For editors ingesting hundreds of gigabytes from a shoot, that consistency matters more than a short burst figure, because the transfer finishes predictably instead of tailing off.

Size, cables and everyday use

At 58 grams and eight millimetres thick, the grey T7 adds almost nothing to a laptop sleeve, yet holds two terabytes. Both cable types are included in the box, a Type-C to Type-C cable for modern laptops, tablets and phones, and a Type-C to Type-A cable for older machines, so the drive can be used across a mixed set of equipment without buying adapters. The grey finish is the understated option in the T7 range, suited to professional bags and desks where bright colours are not wanted.

For anyone who regularly moves large files between machines, the Samsung T7 2 TB in grey combines NVMe-class speed, hardware encryption and a genuinely pocketable metal body in one drive. It is equally at home as a working drive for active projects, a fast shuttle between studio and home, or a compact backup that is easy to keep with you.
