Belkin 65W Dual USB-C GaN Charger — White

Belkin 65W Dual USB-C GaN Charger White

The Belkin 65W Dual USB-C GaN Charger in White is a two-port wall charger from the BoostCharge Pro range, built to power a USB-C laptop and a phone at the same time from a single mains socket. Used with one device, a single port can deliver up to 65W, enough for fast charging a compatible laptop. Used with two devices, the charger shares its output as 45W from the top port and 20W from the bottom port, so a laptop keeps a useful charge rate while a phone, tablet or accessory charges alongside it.

Gallium nitride, or GaN, is the semiconductor technology that lets this charger deliver 65W from a compact body without the bulk of a traditional laptop power brick. For anyone who travels with a laptop and a phone, or who wants one charger on the desk instead of two, that combination of full laptop-class power and a second usable port is the point of the product.

Key features

• Two USB-C ports for charging two devices at the same time
• Up to 65W from a single port for compatible USB-C laptops and tablets
• 45W plus 20W shared output when both ports are in use
• USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 for fast, negotiated charging
• PPS support, dynamically adjusting voltage and current for compatible devices
• GaN technology for high power in a compact charger body
• Optimised for Apple, Samsung and Nintendo Switch devices among others
• White finish

How the power is shared

The headline 65W figure is the single-port maximum, not a per-port figure. With one device connected, the charger can supply up to 65W at fixed Power Delivery profiles including 20V at 3.25A. Connect a second device and the total is divided: the top port supplies up to 45W and the bottom port up to 20W. That split is well judged for real use, because the device that needs the most power, usually the laptop, keeps 45W, which is enough to charge most thin-and-light laptops in normal use, while the second port still fast-charges a phone. In PPS mode the charger fine-tunes its output in small steps to match what a compatible phone requests, which is how supported Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices achieve their fastest charging rates.

Charging speeds and compatibility

Belkin rates this charger to fast-charge an iPhone 13 from empty to 50 percent in around 28 minutes and a Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus from empty to 50 percent in around 27 minutes, figures that depend on the device, its battery state and a suitable USB-C cable. Compatibility covers USB-C smartphones, tablets and laptops generally, including iPhone and iPad models, Samsung Galaxy phones, Google Pixel phones, MacBook models and the Nintendo Switch. As with every USB-C charger, the connected device decides how much power to draw: the charger offers the profiles, and the phone, tablet or laptop negotiates the rate it can safely accept. A cable rated for the required current is part of the result, particularly at the full 65W laptop rate.

Everyday and travel use

One compact charger that covers a laptop and a phone simplifies both a desk setup and a travel bag. At home it removes the second adapter from the power strip; on the road it replaces the separate laptop brick and phone charger with a single unit that works from one hotel or airport socket. The charger itself provides power only: it does not carry data, audio or video, so display and data connections still run through the device ports and cables as usual. Devices should be connected with normal ventilation around the charger, and the cable and port choice checked when a laptop is expected to charge at full speed while a second device is attached.

For users standardising on USB-C, the Belkin 65W Dual USB-C GaN Charger is a well-specified single purchase: genuine 65W single-device power, a sensible 45W plus 20W split for two devices, Power Delivery 3.0 and PPS support, in a compact white GaN body.
