Ultraprolink Type C Adapter Set UL1076

Ultraprolink Type C Adapter Set UL1076

The Ultraprolink UL1076, sold by the brand as the C-Adapt Duo, is a set of two small male-to-female adapters that bridge the USB-C and USB-A worlds in both directions. One adapter turns a USB-C port into a USB-A socket, so standard USB peripherals and storage plug straight into a modern laptop, tablet or phone. The other does the reverse, turning a USB-A port into a USB-C socket, so newer USB-C cables and peripherals work with older computers and chargers. Ultraprolink rates both adapters for data transfer up to 5 Gbps and charging up to 3A, and each one carries a hand strap so the pair can live on a keyring, lanyard or cable pouch instead of disappearing into a drawer.

Key features

• Set of two adapters covering both conversion directions
• USB-C male to USB-A female OTG adapter for peripherals and storage

• Data transfer up to 5 Gbps and charging up to 3A, as rated by Ultraprolink
• Hand strap fitted to both adapters
• Plug and play, with no drivers to install

Adapter one: USB-C to USB-A OTG

The Type-C OTG adapter plugs into the USB-C port of a laptop, tablet or smartphone and presents a standard USB-A socket. That socket accepts flash drives, external hard drives, keyboards, mice, game controllers and card readers, which makes it the quickest way to move files onto a phone, type on a tablet with a full-size keyboard, or connect a wired mouse to a laptop that only offers USB-C ports. On smartphones and tablets the host device must have OTG enabled for storage and peripherals to appear, which is a setting on the device rather than on the adapter.

Adapter two: USB-A to USB-C

The second adapter solves the opposite problem. Plenty of desks, cars, power banks and older laptops still offer only USB-A ports, while charging cables and newer peripherals increasingly end in USB-C. This adapter converts a USB-A port into a USB-C socket, so a USB-C cable can charge a phone from an older charger, or a USB-C peripheral can connect to a computer that predates USB-C ports. It is the adapter that keeps existing chargers and computers useful instead of forcing a full cable replacement.

Data, charging and daily use

Both adapters carry data as well as power, with Ultraprolink rating the set at up to 5 Gbps for transfers and up to 3A for charging. Actual speeds and charge rates always depend on the host device, the cable and the peripheral at the other end, so a fast-rated drive or charger is needed to see the adapters’ ceiling. In daily use the set earns its place through small saves: borrowing a colleague’s USB-A flash drive, topping up a phone from an old laptop, or connecting a presentation clicker minutes before a meeting. The hand straps matter more than they sound, because adapters this small are otherwise easy to lose between bags.

Compatibility and limits

The set works with USB-C laptops, tablets and smartphones from the major brands, and with any standard USB-A host. These are USB data and charging adapters: they do not carry video, so they cannot be used to connect a monitor, and they are not audio adapters for headphones. Keep those two limits in mind and the pair covers the everyday USB mismatch problems most people actually run into.

Small, cheap insurance against the wrong-port problem, the UL1076 set belongs in every laptop bag that moves between home, office and travel.
