Description
Sonos Line-In Adaptor (Black)
The Sonos Line-In Adaptor is Sonos’s own adapter for connecting an analogue audio source to a compatible Sonos speaker. One end is USB-C, which plugs into the speaker; the other end is a 3.5 mm line-in socket. A standard 3.5 mm auxiliary cable, sold separately and not included, runs from the source into the adaptor. Sonos lists the adaptor for the Era 100, Era 300 and Move 2, the speakers whose USB-C port supports line-in through this accessory. Once connected, that source becomes a Sonos input: select Line-In in the Sonos app and a turntable, CD player, computer or projector playing in one room can be heard on that speaker, or grouped to other Sonos speakers around the home. This listing is for the adaptor in black.

What It Connects
Any source with a 3.5 mm headphone or line output can feed this adaptor: a turntable, a CD player, a laptop or desktop computer, a projector, or an older media player that predates streaming. For a turntable, the signal must be line level, so the deck needs a built-in phono preamp, as Sonos’s own line-in guidance specifies; a turntable without one needs a separate phono preamp between the deck and this adaptor. Sources with RCA outputs connect with a common RCA-to-3.5 mm cable instead of a straight auxiliary cable. The adaptor itself performs the conversion that lets the analogue signal enter the Sonos system as a selectable input, named and controlled in the app like any other source.
How Line-In Behaves in a Sonos System
Line-in is a system input, not just a speaker input. The source plays first on the host speaker, and from the Sonos app it can be grouped to other rooms, so a record playing in the living room can also play in the kitchen. Volume, grouping and the line-in source settings are managed in the app. Sonos applies a minimum audio delay of about 75 milliseconds to line-in audio, which is what keeps grouped speakers in sync; that delay is inaudible for music and podcasts played on their own. Two practical notes follow from the design: the adaptor occupies the speaker’s USB-C port while it is in use, and line-in on Era speakers is disabled while they are bonded as home cinema surrounds, so a surround pair cannot double as the turntable input.
Why It Is Not a TV Connection
Because of that built-in delay, line-in is not intended for television sound: dialogue would sit slightly behind the picture. Sonos states the same in its own product guidance; a Sonos soundbar connected over HDMI or optical remains the right tool for TV. What this adaptor is for is music sources and other audio where lip-sync does not apply: vinyl, CDs, computer audio, radio tuners and legacy players. Used that way, it is the simplest bridge between a collection built over years and a modern wireless system, with no receiver or extra streaming box in between.
Compatibility and What Is Included
Compatibility is specific: this adaptor works with the Sonos Era 100, Era 300 and Move 2. Other Sonos speakers either have a built-in line-in of their own, as the Five does, or do not support line-in at all, and this adaptor does not add the feature to them. It is not the Sonos Combo Adapter, which adds an Ethernet port alongside line-in; this is the line-in-only adaptor. In the box is one Sonos Line-In Adaptor in black. The 3.5 mm auxiliary cable, the source device and the speaker are all sold separately.
For Era 100, Era 300 and Move 2 owners with a turntable, CD player or other analogue source, this adaptor is the official, minimal way to bring that source into the Sonos system.
