The Furman M-10x E is a 1U rackmount power conditioner from the Merit X series, built for the 220 to 240 volt mains used in India and export markets. It gives a rack eleven filtered, surge-protected outlets and a 10-amp total capacity, so amplifiers, processors, mixers and players draw power from one protected point instead of a chain of unprotected strips. It is the standard first upgrade for studios, live racks and installed systems that currently plug straight into the wall.

Protection against everyday mains events

Most equipment damage does not come from dramatic lightning strikes. It comes from the small spikes generated every day when air conditioners, refrigerators, lifts and lighting rigs switch on and off, and from the surges that follow power cuts and restorations. The M-10x E stands in front of the rack against exactly those events: its protection absorbs up to 305 joules of energy with a peak impulse current rating of 12,000 amps, clamping line-to-neutral spikes before they reach power supplies. The Protection OK indicator confirms at a glance that the protection circuit is active, and the 10-amp circuit breaker guards against overloads.

Filtering for a lower noise floor

Mains wiring also carries radio-frequency and electromagnetic interference from dimmers, switch-mode supplies and motors, which shows up in audio systems as buzz, hash and faint background noise. The unit’s standard-level RFI/EMI filtration attenuates transverse-mode noise by more than 20 dB across the 1.5 MHz to 200 MHz band, which in practice means a quieter noise floor at the console and fewer mystery noises during recording and playback.

One switch for the whole rack

The ten rear outlets are switched together from the front panel, so an entire rack powers up and down from a single, reachable point, and the unswitched front outlet stays available for a charger, a temporary device or a work light without reaching behind the rack. All eleven outlets are IEC type, matching the inlet cords used by most professional audio equipment.

In practice, the M-10x E suits the racks that working audio people actually own: a home or project studio chain of interface, processors and powered-monitor electronics; a live rack of wireless receivers, in-ear transmitters and effects that travels to venues with unknown wiring; and fixed installations in houses of worship, rehearsal rooms and small stages, where equipment may sit powered for long periods and nobody is present when the mains misbehaves. In each case the benefit is the same: fewer surprises, a lower noise floor and one known point of protection.

At 2.3 kg in a 19-inch steel chassis, the M-10x E installs in minutes at the top of a rack and then becomes invisible infrastructure: clean, protected power for everything beneath it, up to a combined 10-amp load.
