Marantz M-CR612 – Network Cd Receiver

Marantz M-CR612 Melody X Network CD Receiver

The Marantz M-CR612, also sold as the Melody X, puts a complete hi-fi system into one compact box: a CD player, an FM and DAB radio tuner, a network streamer and a stereo amplifier that only needs a pair of speakers to start playing. It is built for listeners who still value a CD collection but also stream every day, and it delivers both through the same Marantz amplifier stage rather than treating streaming as an add-on.

Marantz rates the amplifier at 60 watts per channel into 6 ohms, with the flexibility to run a second pair of speakers, bi-amp a compatible pair, or bridge the outputs in Parallel BTL mode. HEOS is built in, so the M-CR612 can work on its own, join a HEOS multiroom system, or take music from a phone over AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth. Two optical inputs let a TV and one more digital source play through your speakers instead of the television’s own drivers.

CD, radio and streaming in one unit

The disc mechanism handles standard CDs as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs recorded with WMA or MP3 files, so archive discs and compilations remain playable. The tuner section covers FM with RDS, and versions for markets with digital radio broadcasting add DAB and DAB+. Network streaming runs over dual-band Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet, and the HEOS app brings together internet radio, Spotify, TIDAL, Deezer and other supported services alongside music stored on a computer or NAS drive. Gapless playback is supported for WAV, FLAC, ALAC and DSD files, so live albums and classical works play through without inserted pauses.

Four ways to drive your speakers

Most compact systems give you one pair of speaker terminals and one fixed configuration. The M-CR612 offers four. In standard mode it drives one pair at 60 watts per channel into 6 ohms. Speaker A/B mode runs two pairs at 30 watts per channel with individual volume control, useful for a main room and an adjoining space. Bi-amp mode dedicates separate amplifier channels to the bass and treble sections of bi-wireable speakers, and Parallel BTL mode combines channels for a single pair when more drive is needed. A subwoofer output with its own connection lets you build a 2.1 system for deeper bass without changing speakers.

Better sound from your TV

Two optical inputs are provided for digital sources such as a television, set-top box or games console. The receiver wakes automatically when it detects a signal on the optical input, and it can learn your TV remote’s volume, mute and source commands, so everyday viewing needs only one handset. Frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz, a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB and total harmonic distortion of 0.1 percent describe a clean, full-range output stage that flatters both film dialogue and music.

Compact footprint, full-size connections

At 280 mm wide, 111 mm high and 303 mm deep, and weighing 3.4 kg, the M-CR612 fits shelves and sideboards where full-width separates cannot. Around the back there are analogue line inputs, a rear USB-A port for music files, Ethernet, the two optical inputs, subwoofer and line outputs, and two sets of speaker terminals. A three-line OLED display keeps track information readable from across the room, and clock, sleep timer and programmable once/daily timer functions suit bedroom and kitchen systems as much as a main listening room.

Choose the Marantz M-CR612 if you want one compact unit that plays CDs, radio and high-resolution streams through a proper pair of speakers, with multiroom and voice control when you want them and none of the clutter of separate components.
