JBL MA7100HP 7.2 Channel AV Receiver

JBL MA7100HP 7.2 Channel AV Receiver

The JBL MA7100HP is the flagship of JBL’s MA series of AV receivers, a 7.2-channel model with Class D amplification rated at 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms. It decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, passes 8K/60 and 4K/120 video through its HDMI 2.1 inputs, and is Dirac Live ready for room correction with a separately purchased licence. Streaming is built in — dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay and Chromecast-class services — alongside a phono input for a turntable, making it a complete media-room hub.

Class D power stage

The MA7100HP’s Class D output stage delivers its rated power with the efficiency that allows a receiver of this capability to weigh just 7.4 kg and run cool in an equipment cabinet. Ratings are honest two-channel figures: 125 W per channel into 8 ohms at 0.5% THD and 175 W into 4 ohms, from a supply with a maximum consumption of 700 W. EZ Set EQ provides JBL’s own quick room calibration out of the box, independent of the Dirac upgrade path.

Video and gaming

Three of the six HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3, supporting 8K/60 and 4K/120 signals for current consoles and PCs, with eARC on the main output. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ pass through to the display untouched, and the receiver handles the ALLM and refresh-rate switching that modern gaming chains require.

Room correction path

Dirac Live readiness is the step-up feature: with the optional licence and a measurement microphone, the receiver runs Dirac’s full room-correction suite, correcting frequency and impulse response across all channels — the current reference standard for AV room EQ. Until then, EZ Set EQ covers basic setup, and manual speaker configuration is fully exposed.

Streaming and sources

Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 (with aptX HD and aptX Adaptive reception, plus Bluetooth transmission to headphones) cover wireless sources; the 192 kHz/24-bit DAC handles digital inputs, a moving-magnet phono input takes a turntable directly, and Zone 2 outputs extend audio to a second space. Dimensions are 135 x 432 x 396.4 mm.

MA series positioning

The MA7100HP is the top model of JBL’s MA receiver range, which returns JBL to the AV receiver market with a slim, modern chassis line styled to sit visibly in a media room rather than hidden in a rack. Within the range, the HP model is the one specified for larger rooms and harder-to-drive speakers: the full 125-watt Class D stage, the second HDMI output and the Dirac upgrade path are all exclusive to it or best realised on it.
