The PreSonus Studio 1824c USB-C Audio Interface is a rack-mount 18-input, 20-output USB-C audio interface for studios that record full bands, including multi-channel drums. Eight XMAX Class A microphone preamps, eight channels of ADAT optical I/O, ten balanced line outputs and two independently mixed headphone outputs give a project studio the routing of a professional setup, with 24-bit, 192 kHz conversion and a 1U rack chassis that fits a standard studio rack.
Why Choose PreSonus Studio 1824c USB-C Audio Interface?
Large sessions are the reason to choose the PreSonus Studio 1824c USB-C Audio Interface over its smaller Studio-series siblings. Eight preamps cover a drum kit or a live band in one pass, while the eight DC-coupled line outputs feed monitor mixes, outboard processors and headphone systems without repatching. Front-panel level control, dedicated mute and mono buttons for the main outputs, and ten ladder-style LED meters keep a busy session under control from the front panel, and the onboard 18×8 DSP monitor mixer handles zero-latency monitoring.
Key Features
18 inputs / 20 outputs: up to 18 simultaneous inputs and 20 outputs (8×8 at 192 kHz).
Eight XMAX Class A preamps: two mic/instrument/line inputs and six mic/line inputs, all with +48V phantom power.
ADAT optical I/O: eight channels of ADAT input and output (four channels at 96 kHz).
Ten balanced line outputs: two main outputs plus eight DC-coupled line outputs for monitor mixing and control voltages.
Two headphone mixes: two stereo headphone outputs with independent mix streams.
Rack-ready monitoring: front-panel main level, mute and mono controls, word clock output, S/PDIF and MIDI I/O.
Best Suited For
The PreSonus Studio 1824c USB-C Audio Interface suits project studios recording bands and drums, producers tracking several musicians at once, and small commercial rooms that need multiple monitor and headphone mixes. It is also a sensible step up for a home studio that has outgrown a two- or four-input interface. Buyers who only record one voice or instrument at a time will not use most of its channels and should consider a smaller model instead.
Setup and Connection Guide
Mount the unit in a 1U rack space, connect it to your computer with the supplied USB-C cable, and connect microphones to the front and rear combo inputs and line sources to the remaining inputs. Connect main monitors to the balanced main outputs, additional monitor or headphone feeds to the line outputs, and a MIDI keyboard or sound module to the MIDI ports. Enable +48V phantom power only for condenser microphones that need it, set gain against the LED meters, and use the DSP monitor mixer for latency-free headphone mixes while tracking.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the PreSonus Studio 1824c USB-C Audio Interface different from the Studio 1810c?
It adds four more microphone preamps for eight in total, more line outputs, a second independent headphone mix and a 1U rack format, making it the choice for full-band sessions.
Can it record a full drum kit at once?
Yes. Its eight preamps can cover a typical multi-microphone drum setup, with ADAT available for further expansion.
Does it need a separate power supply?
It is a rack unit with its own power connection, unlike the smaller bus-powered Studio models, so plan a rack power outlet for it.
