Audio-Technica ATH-S220BT Navy/Beige Wireless On-Ear Headphones

Audio-Technica ATH-S220BT Navy/Beige Wireless On-Ear Headphones

This listing is the Navy/Beige finish of the Audio-Technica ATH-S220BT — model code ATH-S220BTNBG — a lightweight on-ear wireless headphone of about 180 g. The colourway pairs a navy housing with beige earpads, and it is a separate listing from the other ATH-S220BT finishes because the colour is part of what you are choosing. Under the finish, the specification is the S220BT’s own: 40 mm drivers, up to 60 hours of continuous use, multipoint pairing to two devices, a low-latency mode for video and games, and USB-C charging with a rapid-charge option.

The S220BT is the later design in Audio-Technica’s affordable on-ear wireless line. Compared with the earlier ATH-S200BT it adds the features everyday users actually asked for: it stays connected to a phone and a laptop at once, it can be listened to wired when the battery is flat, and ten minutes on a USB-C charger returns up to 3.5 hours of playback.

Multipoint and low-latency mode, in daily use

Multipoint means the headphone holds connections to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously — typically a laptop for work and a phone for everything else. A call arriving on the phone is handled by the headphone you are already wearing, and returning to the laptop’s audio afterwards does not involve re-pairing. It is a connection manager, not a mixer: the two sources are not blended together. The low-latency mode addresses the other everyday wireless irritation, the lag between picture and sound in video and games, by tightening the synchronisation between the two. It reduces delay; like every Bluetooth mode it does not make the connection literally instantaneous, so timing-critical studio monitoring still belongs on a cable — which, conveniently, this headphone also accepts.

Battery, charging and wired backup

The rated 60 hours of continuous use is the maximum under Audio-Technica’s conditions, and a full charge takes approximately four hours over the supplied USB Type-A to USB-C cable. The rapid-charge figure is the one that rescues real days: ten minutes plugged in returns up to 3.5 hours of listening. If the battery does run out entirely, the included 1.2 m cable with its own in-line microphone and control plugs into the 3.5 mm socket and the headphone keeps working as a wired on-ear model.

Fit, controls and calls

Slim housings and lightweight earpads are designed to exert less pressure than a tight on-ear fit, giving a relaxed wear with useful sound isolation for long listening. Easy-touch buttons on the earcup control volume, playback and calls, and give access to Siri and Google Assistant; Google Fast Pair speeds up the first connection to an Android phone, and voice guidance announces power, pairing and remaining battery. The built-in microphone handles calls, and its specified response covers the core speech band.

In its Navy/Beige finish, the ATH-S220BT is the colour-led way into a headphone whose strengths are practical ones: long battery life, two-device connection, a wired fallback and a fit light enough to wear all day.
