Isolation first

With 20 dBA of ambient noise attenuation, the DT 700 PRO X blocks more of the room than most closed studio models. That matters twice over. While recording, less headphone sound escapes toward the microphone, so takes stay clean even at generous cue levels. Sound of the PRO X platform

The STELLAR.45 driver pairs a neodymium magnet with a three-layer diaphragm that includes an integrated damping layer. Beyerdynamic specifies 100 dB SPL at 1 mW and 114 dB SPL at 1 V, both at 500 Hz, with distortion of 0.05 percent at 500 Hz and 0.04 percent at 1 kHz. The tuning aims at a detailed, high-resolution presentation that still carries weight in the low end, so kick drums and bass lines register physically while voices and acoustic instruments keep their texture.

Two cables, one workflow

Most studio headphones ship with a single lead. The DT 700 PRO X includes both a 1.8 m cable for desk and mobile work and a 3 m cable for reaching across a studio to an interface or amplifier. Both attach with a lockable 3-pin mini-XLR connector at the earcup and end in a gold-plated 3.5 mm plug with a screw-on 6.35 mm adapter. Swapping lengths takes seconds, and a damaged cable never sidelines the headphone itself.

Made to be kept

The headband uses hardened spring steel under its padding, the ear pads are soft velour, and beyerdynamic builds the PRO X range in Germany with replaceable parts throughout: drivers, pads, headband, cables and connectors can all be serviced. At 350 g without cable and a clamping force of 5.3 N, the fit is secure for tracking yet settled enough for an afternoon of editing.
