Speech-focused sound

The DST99 S uses a dynamic transducer with a cardioid polar pattern. Its audio frequency bandwidth of 150 Hz to 15,000 Hz is shaped for the human voice, concentrating on the frequency range that carries speech intelligibility rather than extended musical bass or treble. Sensitivity is rated at 2.2 mV/Pa. The cardioid pattern picks up the announcer in front of the microphone while reducing sound from the sides and rear, which helps limit background noise and feedback in busy public spaces where loudspeakers may be nearby. Maximum SPL is rated at 133 dB, giving ample headroom for close, emphatic announcements.

Desktop stand and switching

The microphone is mounted on a gooseneck attached to its table stand, so the capsule can be positioned toward the speaker and adjusted as different users step up to make announcements. The stand provides a stable base on a desk or counter, and the on/off switch built into the base allows the microphone to be left connected and muted between announcements, reducing handling and background noise on the public address system when the microphone is not in use.
