The DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor is a compact editing keyboard built for one page of one application, and that focus is exactly why it works. Designed for the Cut page in DaVinci Resolve, it replaces the slowest parts of mouse-driven assembly, hunting through bins, shuttling footage and trimming clips, with dedicated physical controls: a large machined search dial, source tape browsing, big trim keys and single-press edit functions. The search dial and source tape workflow

The metal search dial is the heart of the panel. It has the weighted, precise feel of a broadcast jog wheel, and in source tape mode it turns clip hunting into a single continuous movement: every clip in the selected bin plays end to end as though it were one tape, so you scroll, mark In and Out, and append, without ever reaching for the mouse or opening clips one by one. Keys beside the dial let it take over trimming directly, adjusting edit points live while the timeline plays, which is where the Speed Editor earns its name. Work that feels like data entry in a mouse-only workflow becomes a two-handed, eyes-on-the-monitor process.

Edit functions without menus

Each of the main Cut page operations has its own key. Smart Insert places a clip at the playhead and ripples the timeline intelligently, Append adds to the end, Close Up creates a tighter shot from a higher-resolution source, and Source Overwrite lines a clip up against existing timeline audio. Dedicated keys handle audio level, full view, transitions and the Sync Bin used to line up multicam material. Escape doubles as Undo on a double press, and the panel keeps only the controls an editor genuinely uses in the assembly stage, which is why it can stay this small and still feel complete. A standard keyboard remains beside it for naming and shortcuts; the Speed Editor complements it rather than replacing it.

Connectivity, power and compatibility

Connection is deliberately simple. Plug into USB-C, which also charges the internal battery and carries software updates and configuration, or pair over Bluetooth and work untethered from a laptop on location. Power use is a maximum of 4 W over USB-C. Blackmagic lists operating system support as macOS 10.15 Catalina or later and 64-bit Windows 10, and the panel works with the DaVinci Resolve installation on that workstation, with the included Studio key unlocking the full paid feature set such as the DaVinci Neural Engine tools, advanced HDR grading and higher-resolution, higher-frame-rate timelines. One year of limited manufacturer warranty covers the hardware.
