Description
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio (Software Licence)
DaVinci Resolve Studio is the paid edition of Blackmagic Design’s post-production application, combining editing, colour grading, Fusion visual effects, Fairlight audio post and delivery in a single program. The Studio licence unlocks the parts of Resolve that professional work depends on: timelines up to 32K resolution at up to 120 frames per second, multiple GPU support, the DaVinci Neural Engine, advanced noise reduction, stereoscopic 3D tools and HDR grading and rendering for Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus. This listing is the Studio software licence.
Key features
- Timelines up to 32K resolution and frame rates up to 120 fps
- DaVinci Neural Engine for AI voice isolation, dialogue separation and smart reframe
- Temporal and spatial noise reduction, motion effects and lens distortion correction
- Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus grading and rendering
- Multiple GPU support with accelerated H.264 and H.265 decoding and encoding
- Stereoscopic 3D tools and a full suite of immersive audio tools
- Multi-user collaboration so editors, colourists and sound artists share one project
Editing, colour and finishing
Resolve’s Media, Cut, Edit, Color and Deliver pages cover the whole finishing pipeline without round-tripping between applications. The Color page is the part of Resolve the film and broadcast industry is built around, with primary and secondary grading, curves, qualifiers, tracking and stabilisation, and in Studio that extends to full HDR workflows with Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus grading and rendering. Studio also adds the finishing tools that clean up real-world footage: temporal and spatial noise reduction for grainy or low-light material, lens distortion correction, de-interlacing, motion effects and Super Scale up-resizing, all accelerated by the graphics hardware.
Fusion effects and Fairlight audio
The Fusion page provides node-based visual effects and motion graphics inside the same project, and Studio adds dozens of Resolve FX on top of the standard set, including effects for noise reduction, blur, mist and film grain. The Fairlight page is a complete digital audio workstation with mixing, equalisation, dynamics, sample-level editing and ADR tools. Studio extends Fairlight with immersive audio tools for surround and object-based mixes, and the Neural Engine contributes AI voice isolation, a dialogue separator and a music remixer that can rebalance finished music against speech.
Neural Engine and collaboration
The DaVinci Neural Engine uses machine learning to automate the repetitive parts of post: facial recognition to organise clips into bins by person, Magic Mask selections, smart reframe for delivering one edit in several aspect ratios, speed warp retiming and automatic colour balancing and matching between shots. Studio also enables multi-user collaboration on shared project databases, so an editor, a colourist, a Fusion artist and a sound mixer can work on the same project at the same time.
Performance, platforms and the licence
Studio supports multiple GPUs for real-time playback of professional 10-bit formats and faster rendering, with hardware-accelerated H.264 and H.265 handling and full-screen playback on a second monitor. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux; the computer, storage speed and graphics card decide real-time performance, so the workstation should be matched to the formats and effects in use, following Blackmagic Design’s requirements for the release installed. Workflow and media asset management integration, a remote scripting API and rendering and encoder plug-in support are also Studio features. The licence covers the Studio edition of the software; computers, control panels and other hardware are separate equipment.
