The RNT 120-inch motorised projection screen is an electrically operated, retractable screen in the 16:9 widescreen format, the native aspect ratio of Full HD and 4K projectors and of modern film and broadcast content. A 120-inch diagonal in 16:9 gives a viewing area of approximately 266 x 150 cm, a cinema-scale image suited to medium and larger living rooms, dedicated home theatres, training rooms and auditoria. The motorised mechanism raises and lowers the screen surface electrically, so the screen rolls away into its wall- or ceiling-mounted housing when not in use and the room returns to its normal purpose.
Electric screens solve the two practical problems of fixed screens: they reclaim the wall when the show is over, and they keep the surface rolled and protected inside the housing between uses rather than exposed on the wall full-time, where it can collect dust and knocks. For multi-use rooms, a living room that is a cinema only in the evening, or a training room that must also work as an ordinary meeting room, that retraction is the whole point of the format. The housing mounts to a wall or ceiling, and the screen is intended for front projection in indoor spaces.
Work backwards from the screen when planning the room. A 120-inch 16:9 image is about 2.66 m wide, and seating distance for immersive viewing typically falls between roughly 3 and 4.5 metres for this size. The projector’s throw ratio then decides its mounting position: divide the intended throw distance by the 2.66 m image width and match the result to the projector’s specified ratio before fixing any mounts. Check the overall housing width, which is wider than the viewing area, against the available wall or ceiling space, and confirm a power point near the housing for the motor before installation.
Motorised screens mount to a wall or ceiling via brackets at each end of the housing, and the structure must take the full weight of the extended screen assembly, so fixings should go into studs, joists or masonry rather than plasterboard alone. Route the power cabling before final mounting, keep the screen level so the surface rolls evenly, and keep the surface rolled up when not in use to protect it. The screen should hang so the bottom of the viewing area sits at a comfortable eye level for the seated audience.
A 120-inch diagonal is the point where a projected image stops feeling like a large television and starts feeling like cinema, while still fitting the wall widths of ordinary rooms. It pairs naturally with Full HD and 4K home projectors, and the 16:9 shape means films, streaming series and sport fill the surface without the unused bands a squarer format would leave. For boardrooms and classrooms, the same size keeps text and diagrams legible from the back of the room.
The RNT 120-inch 16:9 motorised screen suits homes and venues that want a large, true widescreen cinema image on demand, without giving a wall to a fixed screen permanently. The specifications available for this model are listed in the Additional Information table on this page.
