BenQ X3100I 4K Gaming Projector

BenQ X3100i 4K Gaming Projector

The BenQ X3100i is a 4K UHD projector designed jointly for home cinema and console gaming, using a 4LED light source instead of a lamp or laser. It delivers 3,300 ANSI lumens at 3840 x 2160 resolution from a DLP engine, with 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space used for digital cinema mastering. BenQ positions it as the flagship of its X series gaming line, so the picture modes, input lag figures and audio return options are all specified with game consoles and PCs in mind as much as film sources. An Android TV dongle is supplied in the box, adding streaming applications without occupying one of the main HDMI inputs permanently.

Key features

• Resolution: 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 with HDR10 and HLG support
• Brightness: 3,300 ANSI lumens from a 4LED light source
• Colour: 100 percent DCI-P3, 30-bit 1.07 billion colours
• Input lag: 4.2 ms at 1080p 240Hz, 16.7 ms at 4K 60Hz
• Optics: 1.3x zoom, 1.15 to 1.50 throw ratio, vertical lens shift
• Audio return: HDMI eARC with Dolby Atmos passthrough and S/PDIF output
• Light source life: up to 30,000 hours in Eco and SmartEco modes

Gaming performance

Input lag is the specification that decides whether a big-screen projector feels responsive, and the X3100i is rated at 16.7 ms with a 4K 60Hz signal, 8.3 ms at 1080p 120Hz and 4.2 ms at 1080p 240Hz. Dedicated picture modes for first-person shooters, role-playing games and sports games adjust detail emphasis and dark-scene visibility for each genre, with matching HDR variants. The projector accepts signals up to 240Hz, so a PC or console that can output high frame rates is not limited by the display. Vertical scan range runs from 23 to 240Hz and horizontal frequency from 15 to 135 kHz.

Colour and contrast for film

The 4LED engine produces the red, green and blue primaries directly and adds a fourth LED to raise brightness, which is how the projector reaches 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage while holding 95 percent of Rec. 709. BenQ quotes a 600,000:1 contrast ratio with light source dimming, and Dynamic Black processing adjusts output scene by scene. Cinema and HDR10 modes are provided alongside the game presets, and 3D playback is supported. Because the light source is LED, colour and brightness stay consistent over a life rated at 20,000 hours in Normal mode and 30,000 hours in Eco.

Installation and connections

A 1.3x zoom lens with a 1.15 to 1.50 throw ratio and vertical lens shift of 40 to 60 percent gives real placement flexibility: the image height can be adjusted optically rather than only with keystone correction, which preserves resolution. Two-dimensional keystone correction of plus or minus 30 degrees is still available for less formal setups. Two HDMI 2.0b inputs with HDCP 2.2, a USB Type A port, RS232 control and a 12V trigger are fitted. Two 5-watt chamber speakers are built in, while eARC and S/PDIF allow multichannel audio to pass to an external system. Noise is rated at 32 dBA in Normal mode and 28 dBA in Eco.

At 6.8 kg and roughly the footprint of a small cube, the X3100i fits a media unit, a shelf or a ceiling mount. It suits a room that has to serve two purposes: film nights that benefit from full DCI-P3 colour, and gaming sessions where low latency at high refresh rates matters more than absolute black level.
