The Optoma Wave 130RK is a compact 4K UHD laser projector in Optoma’s Wave series, aimed at home cinema and gaming in normal rooms. The DuraCore laser light source produces 4,000 lumens and is rated for up to 30,000 hours, sealed to IP6X dust resistance so the optical engine keeps its brightness without filter maintenance. Despite the home focus, it carries installation-grade features — 1.6x zoom, 360-degree and 24/7 operation — in a chassis of just 3.2 kg.

DuraCore laser engine

Optoma’s DuraCore platform seals the laser light engine against dust ingress to an IP6X rating, which protects the two things laser projectors are bought for: brightness and consistency over time. The rated life of up to 30,000 hours is roughly a decade of heavy daily use, and dynamic black control stretches the contrast specification to 2,300,000:1. The laser also starts instantly and tolerates the continuous-duty schedules that would destroy a lamp.

Picture and gaming

The single-chip DLP engine renders the full 4K UHD raster through XPR, with HDR10 and HLG decoding for streaming and disc content. Gamers get an enhanced gaming mode with 4.2 ms input lag at 1080p/240 Hz and low latency at 4K/60 as well, while film modes preserve the colour tuning for dark-room viewing. A 15 W built-in speaker covers casual use, with HDMI eARC for a soundbar or AVR on the main input.

Installation flexibility

The 1.6x manual zoom across a 1.4:1 to 2.24:1 throw ratio is generous for the class, and geometric correction includes four-corner adjustment and keystone tools. The projector can run in any orientation through 360 degrees and is rated for 24/7 operation, which opens signage and simulation uses beyond the living room. At 274 x 216 x 114 mm it mounts discreetly or sits on a shelf.

Connections

Two HDMI 2.0 inputs (one with eARC), USB power for a streaming stick, RS-232 and LAN control cover the expected source and automation mix. Fan noise is rated between 28 and 35 dB depending on mode.

Wave series positioning

The Wave models are Optoma’s answer to a common brief: a real 4K cinema picture and credible gaming latency from a projector small enough to disappear into a room. The 130RK sits at the bright end of that idea, trading the lamp platform of earlier generations for a sealed laser engine whose running costs are close to zero across a decade of use — the specification that matters most once the first year of ownership has passed.
