Argon Audio FENRIS A5 Active Bookshelf Speaker Pair

Argon Audio FENRIS A5 Active Bookshelf Speaker Pair

The Argon Audio FENRIS A5 is an active stereo speaker pair that replaces a separate amplifier, streamer-ready source switching and speakers with two cabinets and a power cable. Each driver has its own amplifier channel: a four-channel Class D design delivers 50 watts to each 5.25-inch woofer and 25 watts to each 0.75-inch tweeter, with DSP and an active crossover managing the split. Television, turntable, phone and a digital source all connect directly, which makes the FENRIS A5 a complete system for a living room, media corner or desk where a stack of hi-fi separates is not wanted.

Key Features

• Four-channel Class D amplification: 2 x 50W woofers, 2 x 25W tweeters
• HDMI ARC for television sound with TV remote volume control
• Bluetooth 5.0, optical digital and analogue RCA inputs
• Built-in MM phono stage for direct turntable connection
• Subwoofer pre-out for adding a powered subwoofer later
• Automatic input switching and auto power on and off

Amplification Matched to the Drivers

Because the amplifiers, DSP crossover and drivers are designed together, each channel only handles the frequencies its driver should play, which keeps the sound controlled at both low evening volumes and full room-filling levels. The 5.25-inch paper cone woofer works in a bass reflex cabinet for a frequency range of 47Hz to 22kHz, and the soft dome tweeter uses a neodymium magnet. The larger A5 cabinet gives deeper bass and more headroom than the smaller A4, suiting medium and larger rooms. If the room or the listening habit later demands more low end, the pre-out connects any powered subwoofer.

Television, Vinyl and Everything Between

HDMI ARC is the connection most owners will use daily: the television sends its audio to the speakers and the TV remote continues to control volume, so film and sport sound like they should without a soundbar. The optical input takes a console, streamer or CD transport at up to 24-bit/48kHz. A turntable with a moving magnet cartridge plugs straight into the phono input with no separate phono stage, and the RCA line input covers everything else analogue. Bluetooth 5.0 handles phones and tablets.

Designed to Disappear Into the Room

The FENRIS A5 follows Argon’s Scandinavian design approach: clean cabinet lines, magnetic front grilles and trim rings that finish the front baffle neatly. The speakers switch input automatically when a connected source starts playing and power down when the music stops, so in daily use the supplied remote is rarely needed. Each cabinet measures 17 x 28 x 22cm and the pair weighs 7.2kg, placing them comfortably on a sideboard, shelf or stands. Standby consumption is under half a watt.

One note for computer users: the USB socket is a 5V charging output for a phone or streamer, not a USB audio input. Connect a computer through Bluetooth, optical or the analogue input instead.

A remote control is included for volume, input selection and standby from the listening position, and the front LED indicator can be dimmed after input changes so it does not distract the room during evening film viewing.
