Edifier R1280DBS Bookshelf Speaker (Brown)

Edifier R1280DBs Bookshelf Speaker (Brown)

The Edifier R1280DBs in brown is a powered 2.0 bookshelf speaker system built around a 4-inch mid-woofer and a 13mm silk dome tweeter in an MDF wood cabinet. With 42W RMS of onboard amplification (21W per channel), it needs no separate amplifier: connect a television, turntable, computer or phone and it is ready to play. The brown wood-tone finish suits living rooms and studies with wooden furniture, while the side-panel controls and wireless remote keep everyday adjustment simple. A subwoofer output lets you add a powered sub later if you want deeper bass.

Sound and drivers

The two-way design splits the work between a 4-inch mid-woofer, which handles voices, instruments and bass lines, and a 13mm silk dome tweeter for the top end. Edifier rates the frequency response at 51Hz to 20kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 85dB(A) or better, so dialogue stays clear at low volume and music keeps its detail when you turn it up. The tone is the familiar R1280 balance: warm through the midrange, with enough low-end weight for film and television without overwhelming a small or medium room. Bass and treble trims on the side panel let you adjust for placement, such as speakers sitting close to a wall or on a wooden shelf.

Connections for TV, vinyl and streaming

Few powered speakers at this level offer this many ways in. The optical and coaxial inputs take a digital feed from a television or media player (PCM at 44.1kHz or 48kHz), which keeps TV sound clean and free of the hiss that analogue outputs can add. Dual line inputs accept a turntable with a built-in phono stage, a CD player, a computer or a games console. Bluetooth 5.0 covers phones and tablets for streaming and video. If you later want more bass for films, the sub out feeds any powered subwoofer, and the R1280DBs keeps handling everything above the low frequencies.

Controls and everyday use

The active speaker carries bass, treble and master volume dials on its side panel, within reach when the pair sits on a desk or shelf. The included wireless remote handles volume, mute and input switching from the sofa, including jumping between optical/coaxial, line in and Bluetooth modes. The cabinet measures 146 x 234 x 196 mm per speaker, compact enough for bookshelves, sideboards and desks, and the front-firing port design is forgiving about placement near a wall.

For a living room, study or bedroom that needs one speaker system to cover television, records and streaming, the brown R1280DBs remains one of the most complete powered options in its class: real inputs, real controls, a subwoofer upgrade path and a finish that blends with traditional interiors.
