The ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker is a 6.5-inch Contractor Series in-ceiling speaker that brings full-range music and film sound into a room without taking up any floor space, and the ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker is sold as a single speaker for surround channels, multi-room audio and Atmos height channels. Its 1-inch polymer tweeter and 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer are built for the open back of a ceiling cavity, and the slim magnetic grille can be painted to match the ceiling so the speaker all but disappears once installed.
Why Choose ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker?
Ceiling speakers fail when they sound thin, beam harshly, or look like an afterthought, and the ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker avoids all three: the polypropylene woofer is chosen for smooth internal damping rather than showroom brightness, the polymer tweeter keeps dialogue and high frequencies clean at normal listening levels, and the paintable metal grille sits nearly flush with the ceiling. With a 90 dB sensitivity it runs happily on a modest AV receiver, and because it is an infinite-baffle design there is no bulky back box to fit above the ceiling, which keeps installation simple in existing rooms as well as new builds.
Key Features
Discreet ceiling fit: A 232 mm round baffle with a paintable magnetic metal grille that sits flush and blends into the ceiling.
6.5-inch polypropylene woofer: Smooth, well-damped bass and midrange for music and film sound without floor-standing boxes.
1-inch polymer tweeter: Clear, detailed highs for dialogue, effects and Atmos height information.
Receiver-friendly load: 90 dB sensitivity and a 6 ohm nominal impedance suit most AV receivers and multi-room amplifiers.
Simple installation: Spring-clip terminals and an included cutout template; no separate back box is required.
Flexible placement: Ideal for surround sound, whole-home audio zones and rooms where floor space matters.
Best Suited For
The ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker suits home theatre rooms needing surround or height channels, living rooms and bedrooms where speakers must stay out of sight, and multi-room installations in kitchens, hallways and offices. It is a passive speaker, so it needs an AV receiver or amplifier; it is not a standalone wireless speaker, and it is best planned as part of a wired ceiling layout rather than a last-minute add-on.
Setup and Connection Guide
Mark the 205 mm cut-out with the included template, keeping clear of joists and leaving room for the 76.5 mm mounting depth, then run speaker cable to the position and strip the ends before connecting. Connect the cable to the spring-clip terminals with correct polarity, fold the mounting tabs in, push the ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker into the opening and tighten the fixings until it sits firm against the ceiling, then press the magnetic grille into place. Set the receiver’s speaker size to small with a crossover around 80 Hz if a subwoofer is in the system, and run the receiver’s room calibration before judging the sound.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ELAC IC-C61-W In-Ceiling Speaker sold singly or as a pair?
Singly. Each listing is for one speaker, so order two for a stereo pair or four for a typical Atmos height layout.
Does it need a back box?
No. It is an infinite-baffle design made to work in the ceiling cavity itself, which is why the mounting depth is only 76.5 mm.
Can the grille be painted?
Yes. The metal grille is magnetic and paintable, so it can be matched to the ceiling colour for a near-invisible finish.
