The Monitor Audio C2M-CP is a medium-sized Tier 2 in-ceiling loudspeaker from the Creator Series, in Monitor Audio’s Controlled Performance form: it adds a fully sealed integrated back box, so performance is consistent wherever it is installed and sound leakage into the ceiling void is contained. The drive units are a 7-inch (178 mm) RST II mid-bass driver and a 1-inch (25 mm) C-CAM tweeter with UD Waveguide II, in a 2-way design crossing over at 2.5 kHz. Installed frequency response is 70 Hz to 35 kHz (-6 dB), with 87 dB sensitivity (2.83 Vrms at 1 m, installed) and a maximum peak SPL of 116 dB from a single speaker. This listing is for a single speaker, sold individually.

Two Creator Series installation systems make fitting fast and repeatable: the patented Quik-Link speaker cable connector lets the installer terminate the cable and simply click the speaker onto it, and Tri-Grip II dog-leg clamps give a stronger, more reliable fixing than conventional clamps. Tuning switches are on board: an HF switch (- / 0 / +) to trim the tweeter level to the room, and a corner (boundary) switch to compensate when the speaker sits near a wall junction. The cut-out diameter is 212 mm and the mounting depth is 177.5 mm because of the back box; the CM-B pre-construction bracket is the matching accessory.

Why the sealed back box matters

An open-backed in-ceiling speaker uses the ceiling cavity as its enclosure, so its bass and tonal balance change with cavity volume, insulation and nearby joists — and sound escapes into the room above. The C2M-CP’s sealed back box fixes the enclosure volume at the factory, so every speaker performs as measured, installation to installation, and transmission to adjacent spaces is reduced — valuable in apartments, offices and multi-room homes where sound travelling between floors is a real complaint.

Placement and pairing

With 8-ohm nominal impedance (6.4-ohm minimum) and a 35 to 130 W amplifier window, the C2M-CP runs from AV receivers and multiroom amplifiers alike. Use pairs for stereo zones and single speakers for Atmos height channels. Set the HF switch to lift the treble (+) in a dull, heavily furnished room, or cut it (-) in a bright, reflective space; the corner switch compensates for bass lift near wall junctions.

Where it fits
