Monitor Audio Bronze W10 10 inch Powered Subwoofer (Black)

The Bronze W10 is the dedicated subwoofer in Monitor Audio’s Bronze series, built to give Bronze stereo and home cinema systems the low-frequency foundation that bookshelf and floorstanding speakers cannot reach on their own. It pairs a 10-inch C-CAM driver — a long-throw design with a dished cone and a 2-inch voice coil — with a 220-watt Class D amplifier using a switch-mode power supply. A second 10-inch flat-panel ABR (auxiliary bass radiator) is mounted on the underside of the cabinet, augmenting low-frequency extension and power handling so the compact enclosure produces deeper, louder bass than its footprint suggests — Monitor Audio rates the design at 6 dB greater SPL at 40 Hz than its predecessor.

Control is handled in the digital domain. DSP processing manages the crossover and three preset EQ modes — Music, Movie and Impact — so the subwoofer’s character can be matched to the content rather than relying on one fixed tuning. The variable low-pass filter runs from 40 to 120 Hz, and in-room low-frequency extension reaches -10 dB at 25 Hz on the Music preset, which is genuine sub-bass territory for film effects and electronic music.

Key Features

• 10-inch C-CAM long-throw subwoofer driver with dished cone and 2-inch voice coil
• 10-inch flat-panel ABR (auxiliary bass radiator) mounted underneath the cabinet
• 220W RMS Class D amplifier with switch-mode power supply
• DSP control with three preset EQ modes: Music, Movie and Impact
• Low-frequency extension to 25 Hz (-10 dB, in room, Music preset)
• Variable low-pass filter, 40–120 Hz, 12 dB/octave
• LFE and stereo RCA inputs, 12V trigger for system integration
• 18mm MDF cabinet with heavy internal bracing

Why an ABR instead of a port

A conventional ported subwoofer uses a tube of air to reinforce low frequencies, but ports can produce audible chuffing at high output and need cabinet depth to tune low. The W10’s auxiliary bass radiator is a passive diaphragm that moves in sympathy with the main driver, extending bass output without port noise and without the cabinet size a comparable port would demand. That is part of how this subwoofer reaches into the mid-20Hz region from a cabinet roughly 32 cm square — useful in rooms where a large subwoofer simply will not fit, or would not be welcome.

Integration with your system

For home cinema, the LFE input connects to an AV receiver’s subwoofer output and the receiver’s bass management sets the crossover. For stereo systems, the stereo RCA inputs take a feed from a preamp or integrated amplifier, and the W10’s own low-pass filter blends the handover. The 12V trigger lets the subwoofer wake and sleep with the rest of the system, and standby consumption is under 0.5W. Phase and level controls on the rear panel complete the setup, after which the three DSP presets handle day-to-day changes between music and film.

Where it fits

The Bronze W10 is the natural partner for Bronze series speakers in small to medium rooms, and a sensible upgrade for any compact home cinema or stereo system that stops short in the bottom octave.
