The ELAC Debut 2.0 S10.2 is the powered subwoofer of the Debut 2.0 series, designed by Andrew Jones’s ELAC team to give the range’s bookshelf and floorstanding speakers a proper low-frequency foundation. A custom 10-inch high-excursion driver with a doped paper cone is powered by a BASH tracking amplifier rated at 100 watts RMS continuous and 200 watts peak. That distinction matters: the figure that describes sustained output is the 100-watt RMS rating, with the 200-watt peak available for short musical and cinematic transients.

In a home theatre the S10.2 handles the LFE channel — the .1 in 5.1 — where explosions, impacts and score weight live. In a music system it extends the response of compact speakers down to 35 Hz and relieves their woofers of deep-bass duty, which usually cleans up the midrange as a side benefit. A continuously adjustable crossover from 50 to 150 Hz and an LFE input let it integrate with AV receivers using bass management or with stereo systems using its own filter.

Why BASH amplification

Subwoofer amplifiers spend most of their time nearly idle and then need large bursts of power for a few seconds at a time. A BASH tracking supply follows the input signal and raises the available voltage only when the music demands it, so the amplifier runs efficiently and cool at normal levels yet has genuine peak power in reserve. For the listener that means deep effects without the amplifier running out of breath, and lower running costs and heat the rest of the time.

Integration with a Debut 2.0 system

The S10.2 is the natural partner for Debut 2.0 B5.2 and B6.2 bookshelves, F5.2 and F6.2 floorstanders, and the C5.2 and C6.2 centres. With an AV receiver, connect the LFE input, let the receiver set crossover and distance, then trim the subwoofer level by ear or with the receiver’s calibration. In two-channel systems without bass management, the S10.2’s own crossover and level controls do the same job manually — set the filter where the main speakers naturally roll off and raise the level until the bass sounds continuous with the music.

Placement

Corner placement maximises output, useful in larger rooms; a position along the front wall usually gives the tightest, most even response in smaller ones. The near-cube cabinet, 343 mm on each side, tucks beside a sofa or media unit without dominating the room, and the dual ports mean deep output does not depend on precise spacing from the wall behind.
