Polk Audio RC6S In-Ceiling Stereo Speaker (Each)

Polk Audio RC6S In-Ceiling Stereo Speaker (Each)

Most rooms that need music cannot fit a pair of speakers. The Polk Audio RC6s answers that problem directly: it is a single in-ceiling speaker that plays genuine stereo. A dual voice coil 6.5-inch woofer accepts both the left and right channels and sums them in the bass and midrange, while two separate 0.75-inch metalized soft dome tweeters, one per channel, sit alongside it and preserve the stereo detail at high frequencies. Connect both channels of your amplifier to one RC6s and a bathroom, kitchen, hallway or small bedroom gets balanced stereo sound from a single, discreet ceiling cutout. This listing is for one speaker.

The RC6s belongs to Polk’s RCi series of custom-install speakers and uses the brand’s Dynamic Balance driver engineering: the mineral-filled polymer cone is designed to stay free of the resonances that muddy midrange, so vocals and dialogue remain clear even at background listening levels. Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the ceiling void itself as the enclosure, which helps a shallow speaker produce convincing bass.

Where a Stereo Ceiling Speaker Makes Sense

A stereo pair images best when you can sit between the two speakers, but many rooms offer only one sensible ceiling position, or a ceiling where two cutouts would look cluttered. In a bathroom, ensuite, kitchen, study, corridor or small shop, one RC6s centred in the ceiling gives you both channels with even coverage, instead of hearing only the left half of the mix from a single mono speaker. The moisture-resistant materials extend that idea to saunas and covered outdoor eaves. For larger areas, two RC6s units can each carry the full stereo signal for wider coverage, and in home theatre systems the RC6s serves as a single-speaker solution for surround or Dolby Atmos height channels in a small room where two separate speakers will not fit.

Installation Notes

The shallow mounting depth of about 6.7 cm behind standard drywall fits typical ceiling voids, and the 19.2 cm cutout is a standard size for 6.5-inch architectural speakers. Run two runs of speaker cable, one per channel, to the RC6s position, connect them to the spring-loaded terminals, and secure the speaker with its rotating cams. The grille and flange can be painted before fitting to match the ceiling colour exactly, leaving a finish that reads as a recessed light fitting rather than a loudspeaker.

Who the RC6s Suits

Choose the RC6s for one-speaker rooms: bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, small bedrooms, home offices and small commercial spaces where music matters but a stereo pair does not fit, or where a single clean ceiling cutout is the whole point.
