Pure Acoustics Rift 65ACS Angled In-Ceiling Speaker (Each)

Pure Acoustics Rift 65ACS Angled In-Ceiling Speaker

The Pure Acoustics Rift 65ACS is an angled in-ceiling speaker from the Rift architectural range, sold as a single unit. The defining feature is in the design of the baffle: instead of firing straight down from the ceiling like a standard in-ceiling speaker, the 65ACS directs its output at an angle, towards the listening position. That one change solves the most common problem with ceiling speakers in home cinema and in rooms where seating is fixed. Sound from a ceiling speaker normally arrives from directly overhead, wherever you sit. An angled baffle lets the installer aim the speaker at the seats, so dialogue, effects and music reach the listeners on axis rather than as a general wash from above.

Key features

• Angled-baffle in-ceiling speaker, sound directed towards the listening area
• 6.5-inch class in-ceiling format from the Pure Acoustics Rift range
• Designed for front left, centre and right channels in ceiling-based home cinema
• Flush ceiling mounting for a discreet, low-profile installation
• Useful anywhere seating is fixed and sound needs a defined direction
• Sold individually, so channels can be matched exactly to the layout

Why angle matters in a ceiling speaker

Speakers sound most accurate when the listener sits within their main beam of output, and they sound progressively duller and less focused as you move off to the side of that beam. In a living room with speakers on stands or on a shelf, you solve that by toeing the speakers in. In a ceiling, a standard flush speaker gives you no such option: its beam points at the floor between the seats, not at the people in them. An angled design restores the installer’s control. The speaker can be positioned in the ceiling where the room allows, then its output is aimed at the seating row, recovering clarity, dialogue intelligibility and stereo or front-stage imaging that a straight-down speaker cannot deliver in the same position.

Where the 65ACS works best

The classic application is the front stage of a home cinema built entirely in the ceiling: left, centre and right 65ACS units above or just ahead of the screen, angled down towards the sofa, carry the dialogue and on-screen action while straight-firing ceiling speakers handle surround and height duties behind. The same logic applies outside cinema. In a kitchen, dining room or home office where people sit or work in one defined area, an angled ceiling speaker puts the music where the listeners are instead of spreading it evenly into empty parts of the room. It is also a sensible choice in rooms with high ceilings, where directing the output compensates for the extra distance to the seats.

Installation planning

As an in-ceiling model, the 65ACS installs flush into a ceiling cutout and connects with standard speaker cable run back to an AV receiver or amplifier, like other passive architectural speakers. Planning matters more than with a straight-firing unit: mark the seating position first, then choose ceiling positions that let the angled output land on those seats, keeping the front three speakers at a consistent distance from the listening row for even levels. Because it is sold each, a system can be built channel by channel, and matched units added later for surround roles where direction is also useful.

Part of the Rift range

The Rift series is Pure Acoustics’ architectural line, built around discreet in-ceiling and in-wall models that share a flush, low-profile approach to installation. The 65ACS is the directional member of that family: the model chosen when a ceiling speaker has a specific audience to play to.

If your ceiling speakers need to serve a defined seating area rather than a whole room at once, the Rift 65ACS’s angled baffle is the feature that makes the difference.
