The DALI Sonik Cinema is a two-way centre channel speaker built for the job most home cinema systems underplay: dialogue. A 29 mm ultra-light soft dome tweeter sits between two 5.25 inch woofers, so voices carry body as well as clarity and stay locked to the picture instead of drifting into the room. In walnut, it is also finished to sit visibly below a screen rather than be hidden away.

It belongs to DALI’s Sonik series and is voiced to match the Sonik floorstanding and bookshelf models, which matters more than any single specification. Why the centre channel decides dialogue

In a surround mix, the centre speaker handles most speech, many front effects and a large share of the musical score’s focus. If it is smaller or voiced differently from the main speakers, dialogue turns thin, sibilance stands out and you reach for the volume control scene after scene. Two woofers working either side of the tweeter give the Sonik Cinema the cone area and headroom to reproduce a voice at natural scale, from a whisper to a raised argument, without hardening or compression at normal cinema levels.

SMC and Clarity Cone, explained simply

SMC is DALI’s soft magnetic compound used in the driver magnet system to lower distortion that would otherwise colour the midrange, the region where human hearing is most sensitive to a voice sounding unnatural. The Clarity Cone uses paper and wood fibres to keep the diaphragm light but stiff, so it starts and stops cleanly. Together they aim for a plain result: speech that sounds like speech, with consonants clear enough that subtitles become a choice rather than a necessity.

Placement and system matching

Place the speaker as close to screen height as your furniture allows, angled slightly towards the listening position if it sits low, with its front edge clear of a cabinet lip that could reflect sound. It needs an amplifier or AV receiver rated between 25 and 150 watts per channel into its 6 ohm load. Used vertically, the same speaker can serve as left and right channels in a uniform front stage.
