Elipson Horus 10C Centre Channel Speaker

Elipson Horus 10C Centre Channel Speaker

The Elipson Horus 10C is the dedicated centre channel speaker of the French brand’s Horus range, voiced to match the Horus 11F floorstanders and Horus 6B bookshelf models so a full home cinema system sounds like one speaker family rather than a mix. It uses the same driver configuration as the 11F floorstander: two 5-inch mid-woofers in cellulose pulp surfaced with glass fibre, and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet. That shared recipe is what keeps voices tonally consistent as sounds move across the front stage.

Elipson loads the 10C as a front-firing bass-reflex design. The front port matters in real rooms: the speaker can sit inside a TV cabinet or close to the wall under a screen without the port being blocked or booming against a rear panel. Despite the compact 450 mm wide cabinet (just 175 mm tall), the response runs from 52 Hz to 25 kHz, and Elipson tuned it specifically to keep vocal density natural, avoiding the thin, pinched midrange that makes dialogue hard to follow at low volume.

Why Front-Firing Ports Help Centre Speakers

Most centre speakers end up in the worst acoustic position in the room: inside furniture, on a shelf, or tight against a wall. A rear port in that position vents into a cavity and exaggerates the low midrange, which is exactly where voices live. The Horus 10C vents forwards, so placement inside a cabinet or on a shallow shelf leaves the tonal balance largely unchanged, and the crossover at 2.5 kHz hands over to the tweeter above the critical vocal band.

System Building

With 6-ohm impedance and 91 dB sensitivity, the 10C is an undemanding load for mainstream AV receivers. The natural partners are Horus 11F floorstanders or Horus 6B bookshelf speakers at the front, Horus 6B at the rear, and the Horus 8S subwoofer below 52 Hz. Finishes across the range include light wood with beige, black, carbon with walnut, and dark grey, so the centre can match the rest of the system and the room.

Dialogue at Low Volume

Centre speakers earn their place after dark, when films are watched quietly and dialogue still has to survive. The Horus 10C helps here in two ways. Its 91 dB sensitivity means the receiver does not need to work hard to reach clear speech levels, and the front-firing port keeps the low midrange composed at modest volumes instead of thickening inside a cabinet. The result is vocal weight that stays present at late-night levels, so subtitles stay off and whispered lines remain part of the scene rather than a reason to reach for the remote.
