The Elipson Horus 11F is the floorstanding model in the Horus range from French manufacturer Elipson, a series that also includes the Horus 6B bookshelf speaker, the Horus 10C centre channel and the Horus 8S subwoofer, all sharing the same drivers and voicing for stereo and home cinema systems. The 11F is a 2.5-way bass-reflex loudspeaker: two 130mm (5-inch) mid-woofers with cellulose pulp cones surfaced with glass fibre work with a 25mm (1-inch) silk dome tweeter driven by a neodymium magnet. Elipson rates the speaker at 120W RMS, with a frequency response of 40 Hz to 25,000 Hz, 90 dB sensitivity (1W/1m) and a 6 ohm impedance, so it reaches full output from the 50 to 200 watt amplifiers Elipson recommends.

How the two mid-woofers are loaded

The 11F does not simply put both mid-woofers in one shared box. One driver is mounted alongside the tweeter in its own sealed internal volume, which keeps the midrange clean and free of the pressure variations inside the main enclosure. The second driver works into the bass-reflex volume, where the front-firing port extends the low-frequency output. This split loading is how a cabinet only 175mm wide and 250mm deep produces a rated response down to 40 Hz while keeping vocal clarity intact: the sealed section handles definition, the reflex section handles depth. The glass-fibre surface on the cellulose pulp cones adds rigidity to a naturally well-damped material, so the drivers stay controlled at higher levels without the cone break-up that hardens the sound of simpler paper cones.

Front port and room placement

The reflex port fires from the front baffle and is flared to reduce port noise, with a tuning frequency of 45 Hz. A front port is far less sensitive to the distance between the speaker and the wall behind it than a rear port, so the 11F can be placed closer to a wall without the bass becoming heavy or boomy. That matters in real living rooms, where floorstanders rarely get the metre of free space that rear-ported designs prefer. The cabinet stands 850mm tall, or 875mm on its plinth with the grille fitted, and the removable spikes level the speaker and lock it to the floor for a stable stereo image.

Amplifier matching and system building

With 90 dB sensitivity, the 11F produces realistic listening levels from modest power, and the 6 ohm load is an easy drive for modern stereo amplifiers and AV receivers within Elipson’s 50 to 200 watt recommendation. Because every Horus model uses the same tweeter and mid-woofer family, the 11F pair blends tonally with the Horus 10C centre and Horus 6B surrounds in a multichannel system, and the Horus 8S subwoofer can take over the deepest bass for film work.
