Dali Opticon 6 MK2 Floor Standing Speaker – Pair – Hybrid Tweeter Towers for Serious Listening Rooms

The Opticon 6 MK2 is where Dali’s mid-range stops compromising. Its hybrid tweeter module – a 29 mm soft dome working with a ribbon super tweeter – covers the range from the upper midrange to 30 kHz with a smoothness and air that single-dome designs cannot match, while twin 6½-inch wood-fibre woofers in a 2½-way bass-reflex cabinet supply bass that reaches 38 Hz with control. It is a full-range tower for stereo listening rooms and serious home-cinema fronts, finished in Black, White or Tobacco Oak.

Key features

• Hybrid tweeter module: 29 mm soft dome plus ribbon super tweeter
• Extended, airy high frequencies out to 30 kHz – ready for hi-res audio
• Twin 6½-inch wood-fibre cone woofers in a 2½-way configuration
• SMC magnet technology reduces distortion in the critical midrange
• Bass extension to 38 Hz – full-range playback without a subwoofer
• 88 dB sensitivity; amplifiers from 25 to 200 watts recommended
• Danish-designed cabinets in Black, White and Tobacco Oak finishes
• Suited to stereo systems and as front channels in home cinema

The hybrid tweeter, explained

Most tweeters are asked to do two jobs that pull in opposite directions: move enough air for the upper midrange and stay composed at the highest frequencies. Dali splits the work. The soft dome handles the range where the ear is most sensitive, and the ribbon super tweeter takes over for the top octaves, where its featherweight diaphragm tracks harmonics and ambience cues that dome tweeters smear. Hi-res recordings, film scores and acoustic instruments gain the sense of air and space that separates good hi-fi from the real thing.

Wood fibre, SMC and controlled bass

Dali’s wood-fibre cones are light, stiff and deliberately imperfect – the fibre structure damps resonances instead of broadcasting them. The 2½-way crossover lets both woofers share the deep bass while the upper woofer alone carries the lower midrange, keeping vocals clean as volume rises. SMC magnet material in the motor system attacks distortion at its source, and the result is bass that is extended yet articulate: tabla and kick drum have edges, double bass has pitch, and nothing blooms into the midrange.

Partnering and placement

At 4 ohms nominal and 88 dB sensitivity, the Opticon 6 MK2 rewards a capable amplifier – 25 watts will play, but the 100-watt class integrated amplifiers it was designed alongside give it grip and scale. Give the towers modest space from the rear wall, angle them per Dali’s wide-dispersion guidance rather than aggressive toe-in, and the soundstage opens wide enough for orchestral work while keeping film dialogue anchored.

For listeners moving up from entry towers or building a listening room around one excellent pair of speakers, the Opticon 6 MK2 is the Dali sweet spot.
