Dali Sonik 7 – 2 Way Floor Standing Speaker (pair) (black)

Dali Sonik 7 Floorstanding Speaker Pair Black – Hybrid Tweeter, Twin 7-Inch Drivers

The SONIK 7 is the larger floorstanding model in DALI’s SONIK range, a 2.5-way bass-reflex design supplied here as a pair in black. It brings two technologies down from DALI’s more expensive ranges: a hybrid tweeter module that pairs a soft dome with a planar magnetostatic unit, and bass drivers built around SMC magnet material with Clarity Cone diaphragms. The aim is a full-range speaker for medium to larger rooms that keeps the openness and low distortion DALI is known for.

Each cabinet carries two 7-inch bass and midrange drivers, so the pair presents real cone area for film soundtracks and large-scale music, while the 6 ohm nominal impedance and 88.5dB sensitivity keep amplifier demands reasonable. DALI recommends between 30 and 180 watts per channel, which covers most stereo amplifiers and AV receivers in normal use.

Key features

• Hybrid tweeter: 29mm low-loss soft dome combined with a 17 x 45mm planar magnetostatic tweeter
• Two 7-inch Clarity Cone bass and midrange drivers per cabinet, paper and wood fibre diaphragms
• SMC Essential magnet system to reduce distortion and improve driver linearity
• Frequency range of 36Hz to 30kHz, with a maximum SPL of 110dB
• 2.5-way crossover at 2,300Hz and 14,000Hz for a seamless hand-over to the hybrid tweeter
• 88.5dB sensitivity and 6 ohm impedance, amplifier recommendation 30 to 180 watts

Why a hybrid tweeter

A soft dome handles the lower treble with the smoothness DALI voices its speakers for, while the planar magnetostatic unit takes over at the highest frequencies, where its light, large-area diaphragm disperses sound widely and extends response to 30kHz. Splitting the work this way keeps each unit in the range where it performs best. The audible effect is treble that stays detailed and airy without turning hard at volume, and a soundstage that remains open when you are not sitting exactly on the centre line.

Clarity Cone drivers and SMC

The two 7-inch drivers use Clarity Cone diaphragms of paper and wood fibre, a material DALI favours for its low weight, stiffness and naturally controlled resonance behaviour. Behind them, the SMC Essential magnet system places DALI’s soft magnetic compound in the pole piece, where it reduces hysteresis and eddy-current effects that otherwise add distortion as the voice coil moves. Because the SONIK 7 is a 2.5-way design, the lower driver works only in the bass while the upper driver continues into the midrange, giving both low-frequency weight and a clear, uncoloured vocal band.

Room placement and amplification

The bass-reflex cabinet is tuned to 39Hz and DALI suggests placing the speakers between 20 and 100cm from the rear wall, which gives useful flexibility in real rooms: closer placement reinforces bass, more space opens up depth and imaging. Spikes, lock nuts, rubber feet and outriggers are included, so the speakers can be set up correctly on hard floors or carpet. Connection is single-wire. In a home cinema the SONIK 7 is voiced to partner the SONIK CINEMA centre channel as front left and right speakers.

As a pair, the SONIK 7 suits listeners stepping up from bookshelf speakers who want genuine full-range coverage without moving to a much larger or harder-to-drive cabinet — a floorstander with flagship-derived tweeter and magnet technology, voiced for long, relaxed listening as much as for impact.
