Edifier R1580MB Active Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

Edifier R1580MB Active Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

The Edifier R1580MB is an active 2.0 bookshelf speaker system in black, designed for rooms that need music playback and voice reinforcement from the same pair of speakers. Alongside Bluetooth and wired inputs for music, it provides two microphone inputs with their own level control, which makes it suitable for classrooms, small meeting spaces, places of worship, cafes and home karaoke as well as ordinary desktop and living-room listening. Because the amplification is built in, at 42 watts RMS in total, no separate amplifier or receiver is required: connect a source, connect the speakers to each other and to power, and the system is complete.

Each cabinet combines a 4-inch midrange and bass driver with a half-inch silk-dome tweeter, covering a frequency response of 55 Hz to 20 kHz. The wooden enclosure is built to minimise acoustic resonance and reduce distortion, and front-facing controls and a remote keep daily operation simple for users who are not audio specialists.

Key features

• 42 W RMS total output: 21 W per channel from a built-in Class D amplifier system, with no external amplifier required.
• Dual microphone inputs: Two microphone inputs with separate mic volume control allow use as a small public address system.
• Bluetooth connectivity: Bluetooth V4.0 with A2DP and AVRCP profiles for wireless music playback from phones, tablets and laptops.
• Multiple wired inputs: PC and AUX inputs allow two wired sources to remain connected alongside Bluetooth.
• 4-inch bass driver: 4-inch (116 mm) midrange and bass unit with a half-inch (13 mm) silk-dome tweeter in each cabinet.
• Wooden enclosure: Quality wooden cabinet construction minimises resonance and complements room interiors.
• Simple controls: Volume, bass level and source selection on the speaker, with remote control included in the system design.

Amplification and drivers

The R1580MB uses a Class D amplifier system delivering 21 watts to the right channel and 21 watts to the left, an output level suited to nearfield listening, presentations and background or foreground music in small to medium rooms. The 4-inch driver handles the midrange and bass, keeping voices clear for speech applications, while the half-inch silk-dome tweeter covers the high frequencies up to 20 kHz. The published noise level is 25 dB(A) or less, which matters in quiet environments such as classrooms and offices where amplifier hiss would be distracting. Input sensitivities are specified for each source type, 700 mV for the PC input and 550 mV for AUX and Bluetooth, so levels stay consistent when switching between a computer, a phone and a microphone.

Microphone and public address use

The dual microphone inputs are what set the R1580MB apart from most active bookshelf speakers. Two microphones can be connected at the rear panel, with the microphone volume adjusted independently of the music level, so a teacher, presenter or singer can be heard over background music without changing the playback volume. The microphone dynamic range is specified from minus 50 to 30 dBV. This makes the system a compact, self-contained solution for tuition centres, training rooms, small halls and retail announcements, where a separate mixer and PA amplifier would be oversized for the task.

Connections and everyday operation

Sources connect in three ways: Bluetooth for wireless streaming, and PC and AUX inputs for wired devices such as computers, televisions and media players. Switching between inputs is done from the master volume control on the active speaker or from the remote control, and the LED indicator shows the active mode, blue for Bluetooth and green for wired input. Bass level can be adjusted to suit the room and placement, and the two cabinets link with the supplied speaker connecting cable. Each cabinet is compact at approximately 140 mm wide, 228 mm high and 177 mm deep, fitting on desks, shelves and counters where a full hi-fi system would not.

The R1580MB is a practical choice wherever one compact speaker system must handle both music and microphones: it removes the amplifier, mixer and cabling complexity of a component setup while keeping the connections and controls that everyday use actually requires.
